Why Bother Figuring This Out?
Honestly? It wasn’t some big math mission. I needed to place a piece of furniture! Knowing inches alone didn’t help me feel its size relative to my TV stand. Converting it to feet gave me that 5.5, which is better, but still not perfect. Comparing it directly to objects measured in feet and inches I already know – that TV stand, my height – is what made it click instantly.

The most practical thing? Knowing my bookcase was about 4 inches taller than my TV stand meant I knew exactly where it could fit without measuring the ceiling clearance.
