Alright, let’s talk about that time I went to the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Man, what a wild ride that was.

Getting There and Getting Started
I remember it like it was yesterday. I decided to go to Scottsdale, Arizona for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. It was in late January, from the 27th to February 2nd, to be precise. I was so pumped up! I booked my flight, found a decent place to crash, and I was all set. This tournament is a big deal on the PGA TOUR, and everyone talks about the crazy atmosphere, especially at the 16th hole. I heard about some names that were going to be there like Hodges, Lee Hoffman, Charley Hoge, Tom Holmes, J.B. Homa, Max Horschel, Billy Hossler, Beau Hovland, Viktor Hubbard, Mark Im, Sungjae Jaeger, Stephan Johnson, and many others.
The Tournament Experience
The first day I got there, I headed straight to TPC Scottsdale. The place was buzzing. I grabbed a spot where I could see some of the action, and I watched these incredible golfers do their thing. One guy I remember hearing about was J.B. Holmes, who had won this tournament before in 2006 and 2008. He was leading solo at the 6-hole mark, which was pretty cool to hear. I was rooting for some of my favorites and just soaking it all in.
- I spent hours walking around, checking out different holes.
- I saw some amazing shots and some not-so-great ones.
- It was a rollercoaster of emotions, you know?
The Atmosphere

The energy at this tournament is something else. Especially at the 16th hole—it’s like a giant party. People were cheering, having a blast, and just enjoying the heck out of the game. I met some fellow golf fans, and we chatted about who we thought would win. I heard rumors that Rahm, who was number 3 in the world, could jump to number 1 if he won. The stakes were high, and the excitement was palpable.
The Final Day
Sunday was the big day. I woke up early and got to the course to secure a good spot. The greens were firm, and there was a bit of wind, making things tougher for the players. I remember seeing on the news that Simpson won, apparently at Tony Finau’s expense. It was a nail-biter, and even though my favorite didn’t win, it was still an incredible experience.
Reflecting on the Experience
I left Scottsdale with a ton of memories. I saw some top-notch golf, met some cool people, and just had a blast. The 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open was definitely one for the books. If you ever get a chance to go, do it. You won’t regret it.
That’s my story of the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Hope you enjoyed it!
