My Dive into Candy Carson’s Books
Alright, let me tell you about the time I decided to look into books by Candy Carson. It wasn’t some big research project, just curiosity kicking in. I’d heard plenty about her husband, Dr. Ben Carson, you know, the surgeon and politician. Watched some interviews, read some articles. Then it hit me, I wondered what her story was, from her perspective. Does she write? What’s she put out there?

So, the first step was simple. Fired up the computer, went to my usual search engine. Typed in something straightforward like “Candy Carson books” or “books written by Candy Carson”. Didn’t expect a library’s worth, but wanted to see what popped up.
What came back mostly pointed to books co-authored with her husband. The main one seemed to be “A Doctor in the House: My Life with Ben Carson”. Saw another one called “One Nation”, also co-authored. I didn’t really see books that were solely hers, mostly these collaborations or maybe forewords.
Okay, fair enough. Co-authored means she still had a hand in it, right? I figured “A Doctor in the House” was probably the best bet to get her viewpoint on their life together. So, I decided that’s the one I’d try to track down.
Getting My Hands on a Copy
Next part was actually getting the book. I didn’t feel like running out to a big bookstore, sometimes it’s just easier online. Checked a couple of the big online book places. Found plenty of copies, new and used.
I usually go for used if I can, saves a few bucks and feels a bit more… I don’t know, seasoned? Found a decent-looking used copy, paperback. Clicked order, paid the small fee, and then it was just a waiting game.

Took maybe four or five days? The little package arrived. Nothing fancy, just a simple mailer. Opened it up, and there it was. The cover looked okay, pages seemed fine. Ready to go.
The Reading Part
So, I settled in one evening, cup of tea beside me, and started reading. It wasn’t a super tough read, pretty straightforward language. It flowed okay.
- I tried to pay attention to the parts that felt like they came more from her voice, her perspective on events.
- It definitely tells their story, from meeting him to family life, dealing with his demanding career.
- You get glimpses of her side, the challenges, the faith aspect which seems important to both of them.
It wasn’t like reading a diary, obviously, it’s a book written for the public and co-authored. But still, I felt I got a bit more understanding of her role and experiences than I had before. Read through it over maybe three or four evenings, just picking it up when I had some quiet time.
Finished it up. Put it on the shelf. Felt like, okay, mission accomplished. I went looking for Candy Carson’s perspective, found a book she co-wrote, read it, and got a sense of her story alongside her husband’s famous one. It was an interesting little detour, finding and reading that book. Simple as that, really. Just followed my curiosity from start to finish.
