Which Call of Duty all games PS4 should I play first? Your simple starting guide here.

Must read

So, I decided a while back to really dig into the Call of Duty games available on my PS4. It wasn’t like a grand plan at first, more like I had one or two, maybe Black Ops 3 came with the console bundle, I forget. Then a buddy mentioned Modern Warfare (the newer one), and I thought, why not try and see how many of these I can actually play through on this machine?

Getting Started

First thing was figuring out which CoD titles actually hit the PS4. I kinda just started grabbing what I could find cheap, used copies mostly, or digital sales. Ghosts was one of the early ones I picked up, remember it being a PS4 launch title, felt kinda next-gen-ish at the time, but looking back, maybe not so much. Then came Advanced Warfare with all the exosuit jumping – that was a different beast altogether. Took some getting used to, that movement style.

Installation was always the first hurdle. Man, these games are huge. Pop in a disc, and bam, massive download required. Or buy digital and just wait… and wait. My poor PS4’s hard drive was constantly screaming for space. I actually had to buy an external hard drive just to keep more than two or three CoDs installed at once. It’s kind of ridiculous when you think about it.

Diving In – Campaigns vs. Multiplayer

I usually try the campaign first, just to get a feel for the game, you know? Some were pretty cool.

  • Modern Warfare (2019) campaign felt gritty, really liked that one.
  • WWII took it back to basics, which was a nice change of pace.
  • Infinite Warfare… well, space battles were interesting, but the campaign didn’t grab me as much, honestly. Felt a bit out there for CoD.
  • Black Ops 3 had that weird, twisty story. Played it co-op with a friend, which made it more fun.

But let’s be real, most folks get CoD for the multiplayer. And yeah, I spent most of my time there. Jumping into Team Deathmatch is usually my go-to. It’s easy to get into, quick action. Sometimes I’d try Search and Destroy if I felt like being more tactical, but mostly I just wanted to run and gun.

The grind is real though. Leveling up weapons, unlocking attachments, prestiging… it hooks you in. Some nights it was awesome, getting killstreaks, winning matches. Other nights, I’d just get absolutely destroyed, spawn, die, repeat. Frustrating doesn’t even cover it sometimes. You question your life choices after a few bad rounds, haha.

Trying for the “All Games” Goal

So, did I play all of them on PS4? I got through quite a few. Modern Warfare Remastered (came with Infinite Warfare’s fancy edition), Black Ops 4 (no campaign there, just multiplayer and Blackout which was their battle royale attempt), Cold War, Vanguard… I think I hit most of the main releases for the PS4 generation. I even tried the free-to-play Warzone, which is basically its own monster now.

It wasn’t really a strict checklist thing, more like I’d finish with one, see another on sale, and think “might as well”. It’s a massive time sink, though. Each game demands a lot of hours if you want to see everything or get good online.

Final Thoughts

Looking back, it was a journey. Lots of shooting, lots of updates, lots of late nights. The PS4 handled them all pretty well, considering. Some ran smoother than others, naturally. Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone definitely pushed the hardware. You could hear the fan kicking into high gear.

It’s kind of wild how many CoD experiences you can have just on this one console generation. From boots-on-the-ground WWII stuff to futuristic space combat and back again. While I probably wouldn’t recommend someone try to play every single one back-to-back unless they have tons of free time and hard drive space, diving into a few key titles gives you a good taste of what the series offered during the PS4 era. It was fun, mostly. Mostly.
