Alright folks, buckle up! Today I’m gonna spill the beans on my balancing shaft escapade. It was a bit of a journey, let me tell ya.

So, it all started when I noticed my engine was acting a little… jiggy. Vibrations were getting pretty bad, especially at higher RPMs. After some digging around online, I figured it might be the balancing shaft. Never messed with one before, but hey, gotta learn sometime, right?
First things first, I grabbed the service manual for my car. That thing is my bible when it comes to this kind of stuff. Read through the section on the balancing shaft a few times, making sure I understood the process. Ordered a new balancing shaft kit online – figured might as well replace everything while I was in there.
Drained the oil, removed the belts and pulleys that were in the way. Then came the fun part – getting to the balancing shaft itself. Unbolted the engine mount, supported the engine with a jack, and carefully lowered it a bit to give myself some working room. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part, I didn’t want to drop the engine!
Removed the old balancing shaft. Man, it was gunked up! Cleaned everything up real good with some degreaser and a wire brush. Installed the new balancing shaft, making sure to align the timing marks correctly. This is super important, if it’s off, your engine will be even worse than before!
Put everything back together. Torqued all the bolts to the proper spec. Reconnected all the hoses and wires. Lowered the engine back into place, rebolted the engine mount, and refilled the oil.

Now for the moment of truth. Turned the key, and she fired right up! Let it idle for a bit, listening for any weird noises. Gave it some gas, and… smooth as butter! The vibrations were gone. Seriously, it was like driving a brand new car again.
Here’s a few things I learned along the way:
- Take your time. Don’t rush things, especially when it comes to aligning the timing marks.
- Have the right tools. Makes the job a whole lot easier.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I called my buddy who’s a mechanic a couple of times when I got stuck.
Overall, it was a challenging but rewarding experience. Feel pretty good about myself for tackling it. And now, my car runs like a dream! Hope this helps someone out there who’s thinking about doing the same thing.
