Alright, so I’ve been digging into this Jackson Chourio guy, the baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers. He’s been getting a lot of hype lately, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I found some interesting stuff about his “splits,” which is basically just a way of saying how he performs in different situations.
Looking at the Stats
First, I looked up his overall stats. Seemed pretty good, but I wanted to see the breakdown. I found some stats from a few different places. His numbers were backed up by a .278 xBA and .438 xSLG. I was like, “Okay, that sounds decent,” but I wanted to know more.
I found his splits for both the regular season and playoffs. I started toggling the website theme to see if it would reveal anything extra. I found one site that showed his performance against different opponents. It had a bunch of numbers and percentages. Like, for some games in 2024, it showed he had a 72.7% something, a 0.0% something else, and then some batting averages and other stats. It was a lot to take in, but it looked like he did better in some situations than others. For example, he played some games in the beginning of March, and the numbers were, well, all over the place. Some good, some not so good.
Checking Out Pitch Types
Then I went down another rabbit hole. I found his splits based on the type of pitch he faced. There was this thing about a split-finger fastball, which apparently is a tricky pitch that looks like a fastball but then drops suddenly. I learned that the pitcher puts their fingers on different sides of the ball. It is interesting.
Reading About the Hype
Lastly, I did some reading about why this guy is such a big deal. Turns out, he’s a really young player, signed a big contract, and was even ranked as the seventh-best prospect. One article said he’s a “dynamic talent” and can hit home runs to the opposite field regularly. Sounds pretty impressive, right?
So, that’s my deep dive into Jackson Chourio’s splits. It was a bit of a data overload, but I think I’ve got a better understanding of why people are excited about him. He’s definitely a player to watch. I’ll probably be checking back in on his stats as the season goes on, just to see how he’s doing.
