Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout the Phillies standing. That baseball team, you know. They been playin’ for a long, long time. Seems like forever, really. They say they played more than 21,000 games! Can you believe that? So many games. They won a bunch, lost a bunch too. I heard they won over 10,000 games and lost like 11,000 or something like that. That’s a whole mess of baseball.
They been around since, when was it? 1883, I think. That’s a long time ago! Made the playoffs, they call it, 14 times. And they got eight of them, whatchamacallits, pennants. National League pennants. Sounds fancy, don’t it?
Now, you wanna know about the Phillies standing right now, in the league. They got this thing, division standings, and conference rankings, whatever that means. Sounds complicated to me. Just watch the game, that’s what I say! They in some kinda “Wild Card” spot. Whatever that is. Sounds kinda wild, don’t it? Must be important ’cause everyone’s talkin’ ’bout it. They say they’re 5 games ahead of someone. Two other teams, I think. The Diamondbacks, and the Cubs. Sounds like animals. They got the “tiebreaker” too. Must be a good thing, I guess.
And there’s this other thing they keep talkin’ ’bout. “Magic number.” Sounds like some kinda hocus pocus. It’s about gettin’ to the playoffs, I think. Number one seed, they say. Sounds important, bein’ number one. They gotta win a certain number of games, I guess. To get that magic number down. It’s all very confusing, all these numbers.
I seen their scores on that fancy sports thing. They got live scores. What will they think of next? It’s all on the internet now, so they say. They say this place called 365Scores is the fastest for gettin’ scores. They been doin’ it since 2012, they say. And they got over 100 million folks watchin’. That’s a lot of folks! They got news and all sorts of stuff about the Phillies.
And then there’s this playoff picture thing. Where are they gonna go in the playoffs? That’s what everyone wants to know. They got a table, they call it. Shows the chances, I guess. Probability, they call it. Of where the Phillies standing is gonna land them. It’s a whole thing they’re always lookin’ at. This Phillies playoff picture.
I just like watchin’ the game. See ’em hit the ball, run the bases. That’s the fun part. All these numbers and things, they just make my head spin. But folks seem to like it. Gotta keep up with the times, I reckon. There is even a place called NBC something, where they got videos and news and when the games are. So much stuff now.
They got a whole schedule for these playoffs. After the wild-card thing. Gonna be on the TV. Different channels, I guess. Gotta find out which one. Too many channels these days.

I remember when things were simpler. We’d just listen to the game on the radio. Didn’t need all these fancy numbers and tables and whatnot. But the kids, they like all this stuff. They always on their phones, lookin’ at the scores and the Phillies standing. Always checking that Phillies playoff picture thing.
Well, I guess that’s all I know ’bout the Phillies standing. They’re doin’ okay, I reckon. Playin’ hard, that’s what matters. Hope they win. It’s always fun when they win. Makes everyone happy. Even if you don’t understand all them numbers. It is sure a lot of talk for a game, ain’t it? They sure do like their baseball, though. That’s for sure.
I think I’m gonna go get some iced tea. All this talk about baseball makes me thirsty. And maybe I’ll turn on the TV. See if the game’s on. Or maybe I’ll just take a nap. That sounds good too.
