Man, I’ve been digging into this guy Greg Norman lately, the golfer. Let me tell you, this dude was something else back in the day. I started by just wanting to know a bit more about him, you know? So I hit up the usual spots, reading whatever I could find about him.

First thing I found out? This guy was born in 1955, in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. Turns out he was into rugby and Aussie Rules football growing up. Can you imagine that? But then, around 15, he started caddying for his mom, and bam! He was hooked on golf. And get this, he learned mostly from Jack Nicklaus’ book, “Golf My Way”! I mean, the guy taught himself the game from a book!
I kept digging. Apparently, after just 18 months of playing, Norman had a scratch handicap. I barely even understand what that is, but it sounds impressive, right? Then I found out he turned pro in 1976, after working as a trainee at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. He didn’t waste any time.
So I’m reading about all these tournaments he played in. The guy was a beast! He was world number one for 331 weeks in the 80s and 90s. That’s like, six years at the top! He won 88 professional tournaments overall. It’s crazy! He was the first golfer ever to win $10 million!
- Dominated the 80s and 90s
- World number one for 331 weeks
- Won 88 professional tournaments
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I read that he was a runner-up at the Masters twice. They say he was one of the best to never win a green jacket. And then there was this whole thing about him not being welcome at Augusta National last year because of some LIV Golf thing he’s involved with. Seems like there’s always some drama, huh?
But here’s the thing that really got me. The guy’s not just a golfer. He’s a businessman too. Founded the Greg Norman Company in 1993. He’s got his hands in all sorts of things. I guess once you reach the top in one area, you start looking for other mountains to climb, right?

What I learned in the end
By the end of it all, I had a whole new appreciation for Greg Norman. He was way more than just some golfer. He’s this self-made guy who dominated the sport for years, then went on to build a business empire. It’s pretty inspiring, actually. He is a legend.
