What Is Booty Ball Sport? Lets Talk About This Game!

Okay, so, I saw this term “booty ball” floating around the internet the other day, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” It sounded kinda funny, maybe a little naughty, so naturally, I had to check it out. Turns out, it’s a term that got popular after some basketball games, specifically when Penn State beat Illinois three times. Yeah, you heard that right, three times!

The Illinois coach, Brad Underwood, and one of his players, Coleman Hawkins, they started using this term “booty ball” to describe what Jalen Pickett from Penn State was doing to them on the court. And let me tell you, it caught on. People were using it all over the place. I even saw that some folks think it’s a kind of introductory game to regular volleyball, played in a rectangular area split into two. But the basketball context is where I really dug in.

So, I watched some of those Penn State vs. Illinois games, and man, Pickett was really something else. He was using his, uh, “assets” to back down defenders, get position in the post, and just generally dominate. It was kinda like, he was using his butt to create space and score. It wasn’t just brute force, though. There was some real skill to it. He’d get low, use his leverage, and just outmaneuver those Illinois guys. It looks really interesting.

I tried to mimic some of Pickett’s moves myself. I’m not gonna lie, it’s harder than it looks. First off, you gotta have some, shall we say, “padding” back there. I’m a little lacking in that department, so I wasn’t exactly backing anyone down. I need some time to practice and build up some muscle I think. Plus, you gotta have the balance and coordination to use your lower body like that. It’s not just about pushing with your butt; it’s about controlling your movements, feeling the defender, and finding the right angle to get your shot off.

My “Booty Ball” Workout Attempts

  • The Setup: I cleared out some space in my living room, put on some music, and tried to get in the zone. I even tried watching some more Pickett highlights for inspiration. I found a basketball and imagined my defender.
  • The Struggle: Like I said, it’s tough! I tried backing down an imaginary defender, but I mostly just ended up wobbling around. A few times I almost fell over. I think my core strength needs some serious work. The first time I tried to exert force I was almost out of breath.
  • The “Technique”: I did manage to get a few decent post-up moves going, where I kinda bumped the imaginary defender with my hip and tried to create some space. It felt awkward, but I could see how it could be effective if you had the strength and the, ahem, “booty” to back it up. The process is really interesting and I find myself starting to get the hang of it.
  • The Conclusion: My first attempt at booty ball was a humbling experience, to say the least. I definitely have a newfound respect for Jalen Pickett and anyone else who can pull off those moves. I need a lot of practice. It’s a lot harder than it looks, but it’s also kinda fun. I’m gonna keep practicing, though. Maybe one day I’ll be able to back down a defender for real. I think I need more time to get the knack of it, and maybe get some weights, squat a bit more.

So, that’s my booty ball adventure so far. It’s a funny term, but it actually describes a pretty interesting and effective style of play. It just goes to show, there’s more to basketball than just shooting and dribbling. Sometimes, you gotta use your whole body, even your booty, to get the job done. I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress. Who knows, maybe I’ll be the next booty ball master! Just kidding… unless?
