Okay, let me tell you about my practice session today.

Trying the DeChambeau Thing
So I saw that clip of DeChambeau holing out from way off the green. Looked amazing, right? Like magic. It got me thinking, maybe I could try something similar during my practice. Not expecting miracles, just wanted to see how tough it really is.
Went down to the usual spot, the short game area. Luckily it wasn’t too crowded. Grabbed my trusty 56-degree wedge, figured that was the club for the job from, say, 30 yards or so off the practice green.
Getting Started
Dropped a bunch of balls down. First few swings… well, let’s just say DeChambeau makes it look way easier. One zipped way past the hole. Another couple barely made it to the green. One even chunked up a bit of turf. Consistency was nowhere to be found.
Okay, regroup. I started thinking about what I was doing.
- Was my setup okay? Checked my feet, ball position.
- Was I swinging too hard? Probably. Tried to smooth it out.
- Was I focused on the landing spot? Tried picking a specific spot on the green.
Making Some Adjustments
Spent a good while just hitting shot after shot. Tried to get a feel for the distance. Focused on making clean contact. Slowly, things started getting a bit better. Some shots were actually landing near the pin. A couple even scared the hole, stopping just short or rolling just past.
Then, one shot just felt perfect coming off the clubface. You know that feeling? Clean strike, nice trajectory. It landed softly, took one bounce, and started rolling right at the pin. For a second, I thought, “No way…” It tracked the whole way. And… it lipped out. So close! Hit the edge and spun maybe a foot away. Heart skipped a beat there.
Final Thoughts
Didn’t manage to hole one out today, not even close after that one good try. But man, it really makes you appreciate how much skill, and probably a bit of luck, goes into those shots you see the pros make. It’s one thing to get it close, but getting it in the hole from distance? That’s something else.
Still, it was good practice. Forced me to really focus on controlling distance and direction with my wedge. Even without holing out, getting closer consistently feels like progress. Guess I’ll keep working on it!
