Okay, so I’ve been trying to get a handle on my food waste situation. It’s, like, really bad. I feel guilty throwing so much stuff out, and it’s probably costing me a fortune. So, I started looking into solutions, and I stumbled upon this thing called “Waste Mate Squash Pro.” Sounded kinda intense, but I was desperate.
Getting Started
First things first, I ordered the thing. It wasn’t cheap, but I figured if it actually worked, it would pay for itself in the long run. When it arrived, it was bigger than I expected! It’s this hefty metal box with a, well, a squash-er inside.
The Process
The instructions were pretty straightforward. Basically, you just dump your food scraps into the top – vegetable peels, fruit cores, leftover whatever. Then you close the lid and turn the crank. And let me tell you, it’s a workout! You really gotta put some muscle into it. But the cool part is, as you’re turning, you can see the food waste getting all mushed and compacted.
It is very easy to use, just a little bit hard to turn the crank, other than that, everything is perfect, I think it’s pretty good.
- Dump food scraps in.
- Close the lid.
- Turn the crank (get ready to sweat!).
- Empty the compacted waste.
The Results
The thing is compacting to this food, and I think is very useful.
After a few days of using it, I was shocked at how much less food waste I had. I mean, it seriously reduces the volume by, like, a ton. It’s still food waste, of course, but it takes up way less space in my trash can. Plus, it doesn’t smell as bad because it’s all squashed down.
I’m still figuring out the best way to deal with the compacted waste. It doesn’t compost and I just throw it in the trash can, and make it smaller and easier to deal with. But overall, I’m pretty impressed. It’s definitely making a difference in my kitchen, and I feel a little less guilty about my food waste habits.
