Alright, guys, let’s talk about how I messed around with `evo calendar` today. It was… an experience.
First, I needed the thing. So I went searching, found it, and slapped that install command into my terminal. You know, the usual dance. I’m pretty sure I used pip, because, well, that’s what I usually do for Python stuff.
Once I had it installed, I figured, “Let’s see what this thing can do!” I typed `evo calendar` and… nothing. Okay, maybe not nothing, but a wall of text, options, things I didn’t understand yet. It wasn’t exactly user-friendly right off the bat.
So, I did what any sensible person would do: I started poking around. I tried adding an event. It was something like `evo calendar add “Doctor Appointment” “2024-07-29 10:00″`. I think. My memory’s a bit fuzzy on the exact format, I was mostly guessing and checking.
Then I wanted to see the calendar. Just a simple `evo calendar` should do it, right? Nope. More options, more confusion. I eventually figured out I needed to specify a view. I tried `evo calendar month`, and BAM! There it was, my sad little doctor’s appointment staring back at me from a text-based calendar.
The “Fun” Part
- Adding Stuff: Adding events was a bit clunky. I had to remember the date and time format, which, let’s be honest, I always get wrong the first few times.
- Viewing Stuff: Figuring out the different views (day, week, month) took some trial and error. I wish it was a bit more intuitive.
- Deleting Stuff: Removing an event was another adventure. I think I used some kind of ID or something. Definitely not as smooth as it could be.
Honestly, it felt like I was wrestling with the terminal more than I was managing my schedule. It’s powerful, I’ll give it that, but the learning curve is steep. I spent a good chunk of time just trying to understand the basic commands.
I am going to keeping use it to improve my skills, It’s cool to me.
In the end, did I get it to work? Sort of. I managed to add, view, and (I think) delete events. Would I recommend it to someone who’s not comfortable with the command line? Probably not. It’s definitely a tool for people who like to get their hands dirty.
