Upgrade Your Game with Baldurs Gate 3 Console Mods: A User-Friendly Guide

Must read

Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with “Baldur’s Gate 3” lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I’ve always been a big fan of adding mods to games, and I heard you could actually add mods to the console version of “Baldur’s Gate 3”, which, honestly, I didn’t even think was possible at first. So I dove right in.

First off, I had to do some digging ’cause it’s not like the game just hands you a “Here’s how to mod” guide, you know? Turns out, there’s this thing called a “Mod Manager” that you need. But, the catch is, you need to start by creating a new profile in the game and then close it. Seems weird, but okay, I did that. Then, I opened up this Mod Manager, loaded up my shiny new profile, and this is where it gets interesting.

I found a bunch of mods online – you just grab these mod files which are called “pak” files, I think, and drop ’em into a folder named “mods”. Simple enough, right? Then, back in the Mod Manager, you gotta drag these mods from one side to the other. It’s like a little mini-game in itself, deciding which mod goes first. I guess the order you put them in is the order they load into the game.

After I got all my mods lined up like little soldiers, I clicked on “Export mod order to game”. I’m not even 100% sure what that did, but it sounded important, so I did it. Closed the manager, fired up the game, and started a new game.

And boom, there they were! My mods, in all their glory, on my console version of “Baldur’s Gate 3”. I gotta say, it felt pretty awesome to see it all come together. I went for some cosmetic mods, ’cause who doesn’t love a bit of extra flair? And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. My characters looked so cool, I spent, like, an hour just checking out the new looks.

But, here’s the thing I found out the hard way – using mods disables achievements. Yeah, kind of a bummer. As soon as you load a save with any mod, it’s like the game knows and slaps a big “no achievements” label on it. And even if you disable the mods later, it doesn’t matter. You gotta go back to a save before you added the mods if you want those achievements back. So, that’s a heads up for all you achievement hunters out there.

Here’s a little summary of what I did:

  • Created a new profile in “Baldur’s Gate 3” and closed the game.
  • Downloaded some mods (pak files) and put them in the “mods” folder.
  • Used the Mod Manager to load my profile and arrange the mods.
  • Exported the mod order to the game and started a new game.
  • Enjoyed my modded game, but realized I couldn’t get achievements anymore.

It was a bit of a process, and I definitely learned a lot along the way. It’s pretty neat that you can mod console games now, though. Opens up a whole new world of customization and fun. Just remember about the achievements thing. If you’re cool with that, then mod away! It’s definitely worth it to see your game all decked out with your favorite mods. Oh, one more thing, I heard that Patch 7 was the update that made all this modding on console possible, so make sure you’re up to date!
