Alright, so I wanted to really get into golfing lately, and I’ve been watching a lot of pros. One guy that really caught my eye was Rickie Fowler. I mean, his swing is just so unique, right? So, I decided to spend some time trying to figure out what makes his swing tick.

First off, I watched a ton of videos of Fowler playing. I mean, hours and hours. I started to notice a few things. His rhythm is super smooth. It’s not rushed or forced, it just flows. That’s something I definitely wanted to try and copy. I also noticed he has a slightly unusual style, it’s not the textbook swing you see from everyone else. But hey, it works for him, right? He’s a five-time PGA Tour winner after all.
So, I started practicing. I went to the driving range, like, every other day. At first, I just focused on getting that smooth rhythm down. I didn’t even worry about hitting the ball far, I just wanted that nice, easy flow. It took a while, and I probably looked like an idiot flailing around out there, but slowly, I started to feel it. It was like, “Okay, this is what a relaxed swing feels like.”
Then, I started trying to incorporate some of the other things I noticed about Fowler’s swing. Like, I read somewhere that he switched to an old Odyssey Versa Jailbird putter with a 17-inch SuperStroke Tour 3.0 grip at the beginning of 2023, but, you know, I’m not made of money, so I just stuck with my own putter. But I did try to copy his stance a little, and the way he lines up his shots. It felt weird at first, but the more I practiced, the more natural it became.
Here’s what I really focused on:
- Rhythm: Just like Fowler, I tried to make my swing as smooth and relaxed as possible.
- Uniqueness: I stopped trying to copy the “perfect” swing and started to find what felt comfortable and natural for me, just like Fowler embraces his own style.
- Practice, practice, practice: I hit a lot of balls. A LOT.
Honestly, it was a lot of trial and error. Some days I felt like I was getting it, and other days I was ready to throw my clubs in the lake. But I kept at it. And you know what? I started to see some improvement. My shots were going straighter, and I was hitting the ball further, too. I still have a long way to go, but I’m definitely feeling better about my game.
One thing I learned is that you can’t just copy someone else’s swing exactly. You have to find what works for you. But studying guys like Rickie Fowler can give you some great ideas and inspiration. It’s all about finding your own rhythm and style, and just having fun with it. At least for me it is.
