Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get back into some classic Wii games, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 was calling my name. I remember it being pretty fun, but it had been years since I last played.

Dusting Off the Wii
First thing I had to do was dig out the old Wii from the storage closet. It was buried under a bunch of other stuff, mostly old board games and holiday decorations. I finally found it, along with a tangled mess of cords. Seriously, how do cords get so tangled just sitting in a box?!
After I untangled everything, I plugged it all in – power, sensor bar, the whole nine yards. I was half expecting it not to work, but thankfully, the little red light came on. Success!
Finding the Game
Next challenge: finding the actual game disc. I knew I had it somewhere. I checked all my old game cases, looked through drawers, even under the couch cushions (you never know!). Finally, I found it tucked away in a box of old DVDs. The case was a little dusty, but the disc itself looked okay.
Game Time! (After Some Updates)
I popped the disc in, and the Wii whirred to life. Of course, the first thing it wanted to do was a system update. Seriously? After all these years? I let it do its thing, which took a good 10 or 15 minutes. Patience is a virtue, I guess.
After the update, there was another update specifically the disc wanted, Great! I let it do it’s thing, which took another 5 minutes. So much for jumping right in!

Getting My Swing Back
Finally, the game loaded! I created a new golfer (didn’t want to mess with my old save file just yet). The controls were a bit tricky to get used to again. I definitely shanked a few shots into the water at first. My “swing” was more like a spastic flail.
But after a few holes, I started to get the hang of it. I remembered the little nuances of the Wii MotionPlus controls, like how to add spin to the ball and control the power of my swing. It took a little while to get the feel for putting, too. Those greens can be deceptively tricky!
All-in-all Success!
I ended up playing for a couple of hours, and it was a blast from the past. I even managed to win a tournament! It’s not the prettiest game by today’s standards, but it’s still a lot of fun. I’m definitely going to keep it in my regular rotation of games now. It’s a good way to unwind and get a little virtual exercise, even if my real-life golf game is probably atrocious.
