That boy, Rich Paul, he sure knows how to find them basketball fellas. Reminds me of back in the day, finding a good egg in the chicken coop, you know? He’s got that eye, that Rich Paul does. He picked up Sebastian Telfair, that young buck who used to play ball like a house on fire.
Sebastian Telfair, Remember Him?
Now, Sebastian, he was somethin’ else. Jumped straight from high school to the big leagues. Skipped all that college stuff. Big shot, he was. He was gonna be the next big thing, ya know? Everybody talkin’ ’bout him. He’s gonna be the best. They even made a movie about him!
His cousin, Stephon Marbury, he was good too. Played for the Knicks, I heard. Big shoes to fill, right? You know that old saying, “keep it in the family”? They kept the basketball in the family, that’s for sure.
Adidas Dropped Him
He was with Adidas, the shoe people. Big time, right? But somethin’ happened, some kinda trouble. And then, poof! Adidas said, “No more!” Dropped him like a hot potato. He said it hurt his family real bad. His poor mama, had to move back to the projects. Tough times, I tell ya.

- Got better at shootin’ that ball.
- Rebounds, he got those too.
He shoulda stood up to them shoe people, Sebastian shoulda. Told ’em off good. But he was young. What did he know? Probably scared, poor thing.
He had that movie made about him. They make movies about famous folks. He’s in it, about him going to be a basketball star and playing in the big time. It’s called, “Through the Fire” or somethin’. Fancy name for a movie. I guess he went through a lot, huh?
That Rich Paul, he’s a smart one. He saw somethin’ in Sebastian, even after all that trouble. He knows talent when he sees it. Like findin’ a four-leaf clover in a whole field of green. Rare, you know?
Life Ain’t Always Easy
Life ain’t always easy. This I know, for sure. Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down. Sebastian, he had it all, then he didn’t. Happens to the best of ’em. You gotta be tough, gotta keep fightin’.
He was young, barely a man, when he got drafted. June 9th, that’s his birthday. He was so young, just a kid, really. They said he should go to college. But he had other ideas. I guess he thought he was ready for the big time. Straight from the schoolyard to the NBA. That is a big jump. Too big, maybe.
I heard folks talkin’, sayin’ his life fell apart. Maybe it did. Maybe that trial thing messed him up. They said it wasn’t fair, that trial. His people, they stood by him. Said it wasn’t right. Fair or not, it happened. And it changed things, I reckon.
Rich Paul and Sebastian Telfair
Rich Paul, he’s in the business of basketball. That’s what he does. He finds them players, helps ’em out. He’s like a shepherd, lookin’ after his flock. And Sebastian Telfair, he was one of his flock. A lost sheep, maybe, but Rich Paul, he didn’t give up on him.
It’s a tough world out there, especially in that sports business. Lots of money, lots of pressure. You gotta be strong, gotta have thick skin. Sebastian, he learned that the hard way, I suppose.
It’s a shame, really. He had so much potential. Coulda been a contender, as they say. But life throws you curveballs sometimes. You gotta learn to hit ’em, or you’ll strike out for sure. I hope that boy, Sebastian, I hope he’s doin’ alright. Hope he found his way. Rich Paul, he probably helped him out. He seems like a good egg, that Rich Paul.
That’s all I got to say about that. Just remember, life ain’t always a slam dunk, as the young folks say. Sometimes, it is a real struggle. But you have to keep going, even when it is hard. That boy Sebastian, I sure hope he is doing okay. He had the talent, that is for sure. Just hope he landed on his feet.
