The Best of Jimmy Powell: (Must-Listen Tracks From a True Rock and Roll Icon)

Must read

Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this Jimmy Powell thing, and I wanted to share my whole process. I was looking for some old-school tunes, you know? Something with a bit of soul and rhythm and blues. I heard about this guy, Jimmy Powell, who was apparently big in the ’60s and ’70s.

So, first, I went down this rabbit hole of trying to find his best songs. I checked out a bunch of websites that listed all these supposed “greatest hits.” I stumbled upon the name “Gaana” somewhere, never heard of it before. I saw a website called “Deezer” too, that’s new to me as well. Turns out, you can apparently sign up for it for free and listen to his discography. How ’bout that?

Here’s what I did next:

  • I tried to find actual tracks to listen to. I went to SoundCloud, created an account. You can actually play his songs and even follow him there. So I streamed some of his stuff.
  • Then, I dug deeper and found an album called “The True Jimmy Powell” from 2004. I read through some reviews, looked at the track lists, and tried to figure out who worked on it. It was interesting to see how his music evolved over the years.
  • I also saw some lists of supposedly “must-listen” rock songs, and honestly, it kind of threw me off track. Stuff like “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin popped up, and I’m thinking, “What’s this got to do with Jimmy Powell?”
  • Oh, and there was this thing called “yacht rock” I came across. Apparently, there’s a whole page dedicated to the top 100 yacht rock songs. It was a pretty long list, 113 songs, to be exact. Not really my thing, but hey, to each their own.

Getting to the Music

I finally just focused on finding actual Jimmy Powell music and listening to it. I played a bunch of his tracks on different platforms. It was a bit of a journey, I gotta say. I found his songs on *, the website I mentioned earlier. The collection is pretty extensive. I went through all the songs there.

Wrapping Up

So, that’s pretty much my whole experience with this Jimmy Powell exploration. It was a fun ride, discovering his music and learning about his career. I mean, the guy was active during a pretty cool time for music. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that vintage soul and R&B vibe. I’m glad I did it, and I figured I’d share my little adventure with you all.
