Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this TaylorMade Spider GT putter lately, and I gotta say, it’s been quite the experience. I’ve always been a fan of TaylorMade’s gear, especially their Spider line, which is known for its stability.

First off, I started by looking at the design. It’s called the Spider GT Notchback. It’s got this lightweight aluminum body, but they’ve added these heavy tungsten weights on the sides. I read somewhere that even Rory McIlroy uses a Spider putter, though I think his is the Spider X Hydro Blast. Anyway, the idea is that these weights make the putter more forgiving if you don’t hit the ball dead center.
So, I took it out to the practice green to give it a go. I started with some short putts, just to get a feel for it. The first thing I noticed was how stable it felt. Even when I knew I hadn’t hit it perfectly, the ball still rolled pretty straight.
Next, I moved on to some longer putts. This is where I usually struggle, but I found that the Spider GT really helped me control the distance better. I guess that’s because of the design and those heavy weights on the outside. I was sinking more long putts than usual, which was a nice surprise. I didn’t know that a new one could deliver on maximum forgiveness across the face.
I also played around with some different settings. Apparently, there are loads of customization options for both looks and performance. I didn’t mess with it too much, but it’s cool that you can tweak it to your liking. It was said that TaylorMade Spider GT putter puts the Spider’s well-known forgiveness into a sleeker head shape, but I like the original one.
I even tried some really off-center hits on purpose, just to see what would happen. I mean, I really tried to mishit it. And you know what? The ball still rolled pretty well. It definitely didn’t go exactly where I wanted, but it wasn’t a total disaster either.

After spending a few days with it, here’s what I think. The Spider GT is a solid putter. It’s definitely more forgiving than my old one. And it’s got a nice, sleek look to it, although they say that it builds on the impressive performance of the existing Spiders. I can see why the pros like Rory use Spider putters.
If you’re in the market for a new putter, and you’re looking for something that’s stable and forgiving, I’d say give the TaylorMade Spider GT a look. It might just help you sink a few more putts.
