So, I got this idea to mess around with learning Spanish words, and I figured, why not start with something super basic, like “table”? I mean, it’s a word we all use, right? So I dove right in.

First thing I did was just to check out how “table” is translated in Spanish. Turns out, it’s “mesa”. Simple enough, yeah? But I didn’t want to just stop there. I wanted to, like, really get it, you know?
I started by repeating “mesa” out loud. Yeah, I probably sounded like a crazy person, walking around my apartment going “mesa, mesa, mesa.” But hey, it helped! Then, I tried using it in sentences. Super basic stuff, like “The book is on the mesa,” which I think is “El libro está en la mesa.”
Next, I decided to label things in my house. I stuck a post-it on my table that read “mesa.” Every time I walked by it, I’d see it and say it. Kind of annoying, but it worked!
- Repeat “mesa” several times.
- Try to use “mesa” in basic sentences.
- Label the table with a post-it note saying “mesa”.
I also tried to find some online videos or songs that used the word “mesa” a lot. It’s funny what you can find when you start looking. There are these catchy tunes that help you remember vocabulary, and some of them had “mesa” in them.
After a few days of doing all this, I felt pretty good about remembering “mesa.” But I also realized that learning just one word isn’t enough. I mean, what’s the point of knowing “table” if you can’t say anything else?

So, I made a plan. I’m going to learn a few new words every week. Not just random words, but words that are related to each other. Like, if I learn “mesa,” maybe I should also learn “chair” (silla) and “plate” (plato). That way, I can start to build actual, useful sentences.
My Plan for Next Week
- Learn the word for “chair” – “silla”.
- Learn the word for “plate” – “plato”.
- Practice making sentences with “mesa,” “silla,” and “plato”.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with learning the Spanish word for “table.” It might seem small, but for me, it’s a start. And I think that’s what’s important. Just starting, no matter how small the step is.
