Well, let me tell you somethin’. You know, folks are talkin’ ’bout them SuperSonics comin’ back to Seattle. Lord, it’s been a long time comin’, ain’t it?

They done up and left us back in, what was it, 2008? Felt like somebody done ripped the heart right outta this here city. We loved them SuperSonics, we surely did. Since then, we been waitin’ and waitin’ for any team to come back.
Them SuperSonics Leavin’
Remember back in ’67, when they first showed up? Green and gold, fresh as a daisy. They was young and scrappy, but they was ours. We watched ’em grow, you know? Then they went and won that big ol’ championship in ’79. Whole city went hog wild! Parades, cheers, you name it. We was so proud.
But then things got messy. Talk of new owners, new buildings, some kinda fancy arena. All that fancy talk don’t mean much to us regular folks, but we heard bits and pieces. They couldn’t agree on nothin’, and next thing we know, they was packin’ their bags for Oklahoma City. Left a hole in this town, I tell ya.
- They started in 1967.
- Won the big game in 1979.
- Then they up and left in 2008.
- Somethin’ about a new arena, I reckon.
Hope on the Horizon for SuperSonics Return to Seattle
But now, there’s a buzz in the air. Like when you know rain’s comin’ after a long dry spell. Folks are sayin’ the SuperSonics might be comin’ back. They say the NBA is makin’ a big deal, some kinda TV rights thing. Big money, you know, 76 billion dollars. That’s a lot of zeroes! And that fella, Adam Silver, the head honcho of the NBA, he’s been hintin’ ’bout expandin’, bringin’ in new teams.
And our mayor, that Bruce Harrell, he said somethin’ ’bout us gettin’ closer than ever to havin’ the Sonics back. He said it at some court dedication for Sue Bird. He’s sayin’ what we all been hopin’ for. It’s like music to my old ears, I tell ya.

What It Means for Seattle, SuperSonics are Comin’
If them SuperSonics do come back, it’ll be like a family reunion. This city needs ’em. We need somethin’ to cheer for, somethin’ to bring us together. Remember Rashard Lewis? Played for the Sonics back in the day. He was a good one, a champion. He knows what it means to play here.
Seattle ain’t the same without its basketball. We got other teams, sure, but the Sonics, they was special. They was part of our lives, you know? Like Sunday dinner and the Fourth of July. We watched their games, wore their colors, talked about ’em at the grocery store. It was a simpler time, maybe.
- NBA got a big TV deal for $76 billion.
- Adam Silver talks about new teams.
- Mayor says we’re close to gettin’ the Sonics back.
- Rashard Lewis played for the Sonics. He was great!
Seattle is Waiting for SuperSonics
So, we’re waitin’ and hopin’. Prayin’, even. If them SuperSonics come back, it will be like they never left. They can keep their name, their colors, all of it. Just come on home, boys. Seattle’s waitin’ for ya. We got the light on and the door’s open. And maybe, just maybe, we can make some new memories, like them old days. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
I tell you one thing for sure, if they come back, I’ll be right there in the stands, cheerin’ louder than anyone. Even with my old bones, I’ll be jumpin’ up and down like a young’un again. It will be a good day for Seattle if the SuperSonics return. We sure do need it. It’s about time, ain’t it? Time for them boys to come on back where they belong. We are ready for the SuperSonics return to Seattle!
