Okay, so yesterday I started this whole thing about soccer penalties and coughing, and let me tell you, it got weird fast. It all began because I was reading up on some new soccer rules, right? They dropped this new guideline from FA, and it’s a doozy.

Red Card for Coughing
Turns out, you can get a straight red card now for deliberately coughing on another player or ref. Can you believe that? I mean, I get it, you know, with the whole COVID thing still lingering around, but it still feels a bit crazy. Anyway, I decided to put this to the test, just to see how it would play out in a real game situation.
First, I gathered a few buddies who were up for a little experiment. We headed to the local soccer field, picked teams, and started playing. I told everyone about the new rule, just to make sure we were all on the same page. And then, we waited. We practiced penalty kicks over and over. Like they say, “Practice, practice, practice!”
- Took a bunch of penalties.
- Tried to simulate game-day pressure.
- Even talked some trash during water breaks.
The Experiment
It took a while, but finally, someone actually did it. During a penalty, right as one of my friends was about to kick the ball, the guy on defense just turned and coughed, like a big, exaggerated cough. It was so obvious, it was almost funny. I whistled and yelled, “Red card!” I wanted to see if he understood the new rules. Of course, you know, we’re just messing around, so nobody actually got sent off, but it definitely proved a point. Also, I asked some questions during the game, just to see if they could keep focus while kicking.
We kept playing, and you could tell everyone was a little more aware of where they were coughing, even when they genuinely needed to clear their throats. It was interesting to see how this new rule could actually change player behavior, even in a casual game. Some guys said that it helped their confidence, and some just ignored me. At the end of the day, it was a fun experiment and showed us that rules, even weird ones, can have a real impact on the game.
So, that’s my little story about coughing and soccer penalties. Maybe not the most exciting thing in the world, but hey, it was something different. You know, I will keep practicing and recording the results. Stay tuned for more, folks!
