Alright guys, lemme tell you about this “sept tours france” thing I messed around with. It’s not as fancy as it sounds, just me trying to figure some stuff out, and thought I’d share my notes in case anyone else is banging their head against the same wall.

First off, I stumbled upon this phrase, “sept tours france,” and honestly, I had no clue what it meant. So, naturally, I Googled it. Turns out, there’s some debate, but it seems to relate somehow to “Seven Wonders of France.” Seemed interesting enough, so I decided to dig a bit deeper.
My initial plan was to just list the “Seven Wonders.” Easy peasy, right? Nope. Turns out, unlike the Ancient Wonders of the World, there’s no definitive list. Different groups have different opinions. Some lists are historical, some are modern, and some are just…weird. So, I decided to make my own dang list! That’s where the fun began.
I started by grabbing a notebook and a pen (yes, old school, I know). I figured I’d need to set some criteria. I wanted it to be a mix of historical significance, architectural awesomeness, and just plain “wow” factor. No brainer, I started writing things down:
- Eiffel Tower (duh!)
- Mont Saint-Michel (had to be on there!)
- Château de Versailles (so much history)
Okay, good start. But now it got trickier. I wanted something from Southern France, and Notre Dame Cathedral seemed like an obvious choice, although it’s technically still being renovated so it felt a bit weird. I also wanted something from the countryside, but I couldn’t quite settle on anything.
This is where I started doing some proper research. I spent a couple of hours trawling through travel blogs, history websites, and even some random forum discussions. I looked at places like Carcassonne, the Pont du Gard, and the Lascaux caves. All amazing, but none of them quite felt “right” for my list.

Then, I stumbled upon the Loire Valley châteaux. I knew I wanted a castle on the list, and Versailles was already there. But the Loire Valley is like a whole region packed with stunning châteaux! That’s when I realized, instead of picking just ONE, I could cheat a bit. I added, “The Loire Valley Châteaux (collectively).” Boom. Problem solved.
I was still missing two, and honestly, I was getting a bit burnt out on castles. So, I started thinking about something natural. I remembered seeing pictures of the Gorges du Verdon, and it blew my mind. Europe’s Grand Canyon? Sign me up! That went on the list immediately.
For the last spot, I wanted something…different. Something a bit more modern, and maybe even a little controversial. After scrolling through countless pictures, I decided on the Millau Viaduct. It’s an engineering marvel, incredibly beautiful in its own way, and not something you’d expect to see in a list of “wonders.”
So, here’s my final “Sept Tours France” list:
- Eiffel Tower
- Mont Saint-Michel
- Château de Versailles
- Notre Dame de Paris
- The Loire Valley Châteaux (collectively)
- Gorges du Verdon
- Millau Viaduct
Is it “correct?” Probably not. Is it my list? Absolutely! The point of the exercise wasn’t to find the “official” list (because there isn’t one), but to explore some of the amazing things France has to offer and come up with my own personal selection. It was a fun way to kill an afternoon, and I learned a bunch in the process. Maybe it’ll inspire you to create your own “Sept Tours France” list. Let me know what you come up with! I’m always up for new travel ideas.
