Rick Roufuss legacy: Why hes a kickboxing all-time great!

Must read

Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again, and today I wanna talk about my experience with something totally different – kickboxing. Yeah, you heard that right, this old dog’s trying some new tricks. And not just any kickboxing, we’re talking about the way of Rick Roufus, “The Jet” himself.

Rick Roufuss legacy: Why hes a kickboxing all-time great!

So, I’d heard a little about this guy before. Apparently, he was a pretty big deal back in the day, a six-time world champion or something like that. He was known for his strong hands and the powerful kicks, I think he held titles for IKF, ISKA, FFKA and others, there are a lot anyway, I can’t recall all of them. I read up a bit more and learned that he won titles in different weight classes and was part of some big kickboxing groups like the IKF and ISKA. Dude’s legit, is what I’m saying.

First things first, I had to get in the right mindset. I mean, this guy’s a legend. He was world champion as a super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. He started training in martial arts when he was just five years old, can you believe that? I’m over here struggling to get my lazy butt off the couch, and this guy’s been at it since he was a little kid, He was part of a martial arts family, that makes a lot of sense. Anyway, I started small, with some basic punches and kicks.

I started with some basic moves, just to get a feel for it. Punches, kicks, you know, the usual stuff. I tried to copy what I’d seen in some of Roufus’s old fights. The guy’s got some serious power in those legs, I tell ya. And his hands, man, they’re like lightning. He was inducted into the World Kickboxing League Hall of Fame in 2012. No doubt about that, he earned it.

  • Warm-up: Got the blood pumping with some light jogging and stretching. Didn’t want to pull anything.
  • Punching: Worked on my jabs, crosses, and hooks. Felt like a total badass, even though I probably looked like a flailing monkey.
  • Kicking: This was the real challenge. Roundhouse kicks, sidekicks, front kicks – my legs were burning.
  • Cool-down: Stretched it out again and tried to catch my breath.

Honestly, it was way harder than I thought it would be. My heart was pounding like crazy, It’s definitely a good cardio workout, maybe that’s why he was a champion for different weightclass, he is well-trained, I guess. My legs felt like jelly, and I was sweating like a pig. But you know what? It felt amazing. I mean, this guy was nicknamed “The Jet” for a reason. He was fast, he was powerful, and he was a force to be reckoned with.

Wrapping Up

I’m not saying I’m gonna become a world champion or anything, but it’s definitely something I want to keep practicing. It’s a great way to get in shape, and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, it’s pretty cool to be able to say you’re training like Rick Roufus, even if it’s just in your living room. That’s it for today’s share. Stay tuned for more of my amateur adventures, folks!
