Restoring a Honda CBR900RR 1993: Tips and Tricks

Must read

Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again, and today I’m diving into a project that’s close to my heart – a 1993 Honda CBR900RR. Yeah, you heard that right, a ’93 model! I’ve always been a sucker for these classic sportbikes, and when I saw this beauty, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I picked it up as a restoration project, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey.

Restoring a Honda CBR900RR 1993: Tips and Tricks

First off, let’s talk about the condition I found her in. This bike had been sitting for a while, and it showed. There was a lot of cleaning up to do, and I mean A LOT. Dust, grime, you name it. But underneath all that, I could see the potential. The engine was still solid, and with some elbow grease, I knew I could bring this CBR900RR back to its former glory.

So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I started by giving the entire bike a thorough cleaning. I’m talking about scrubbing every nook and cranny, making sure to get rid of all that built-up gunk. It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it, right? After the cleaning, I began assessing what parts needed to be replaced. The bike needed some new parts for sure, and I managed to find most of them online from other enthusiasts and a few specialty shops.

  • Replaced the old, worn-out tires with some fresh rubber.
  • Swapped out the rusty chain and sprockets for new ones.
  • Installed a new battery because the old one was completely dead.
  • Changed the oil and oil filter.
  • Flushed the old brake fluid and put in some fresh stuff.

Next up was the paint job. The original paint was faded and scratched in several places. I decided to go with a fresh coat of paint to really make it shine. I carefully disassembled the fairings and prepped them for painting. It took a few tries to get it right, but the end result was worth it. The bike now looks as good as new, if not better!

After getting it all cleaned up and running smoothly, I took it for a test ride. Man, let me tell you, this bike is FAST. Even after all these years, it still has that raw power that made it a legend. It was an amazing feeling to ride it down the road, knowing that I brought this classic back to life.

Now, some folks might say it’s not worth the time and money to restore an old bike like this. They might tell you to just turn it into a street fighter or something. But for me, it’s about more than just the money. It’s about preserving a piece of motorcycle history. This CBR900RR is a classic, and I’m proud to have played a part in keeping it on the road. Some folks told me to turn it into a street fighter. But to me, the CBR900RR is a classic, and it deserved to be restored to its original glory.

I’ve heard that these bikes can sell for a pretty penny, especially in good condition. I’ve seen some go for around $9,700, and even as high as $31,500 at auction! Not that I’m planning to sell it anytime soon. This one’s a keeper.

If you’re a fan of these classic sportbikes, I highly recommend checking them out. There’s a whole community of CBR900RR enthusiasts out there, and they’re always willing to share their knowledge and passion. And if you ever get the chance to restore one yourself, go for it! It’s a challenging but rewarding experience.

Well, that’s all for now. Stay tuned for more updates on my other projects. And as always, keep the rubber side down!
