Remember the 2006 England football squad? See the full player list!

Must read

Alright, so today I decided to dive into something a bit nostalgic for me – the 2006 England football squad. I’ve always been a huge football fan, and that World Cup… well, let’s just say it was a rollercoaster of emotions. I wanted to really get a solid list together, so I started where anyone would, I searched.

I typed “2006 England football squad” into the search bar. Hit enter, and boom! I got the information about the team on the first page.

My Process

First, I scrolled through a couple of general sports sites. You know, the usual suspects, just to get a feel for the overall information out there. I didn’t want to just grab the first list I saw. Gotta do some cross-referencing, right?

Then, I dug a little deeper. Found some more specific football history websites, and started comparing the squad lists. I wanted to be absolutely sure I had everyone, including those maybe less-remembered players.

Once I felt I had a pretty comprehensive list, I started compiling it. Here’s what I ended up with:

  • Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson, David James, Robert Green.
  • Defenders: Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Jamie Carragher, Wayne Bridge.
  • Midfielders: David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick, Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon, Stewart Downing.
  • Forwards: Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, Theo Walcott.

Man, seeing those names again brings back memories! I even double-checked the manager – Sven-Göran Eriksson, of course.

Finally, I looked around for some of the squad numbers, just for that extra bit of detail. It’s surprisingly tricky to nail down the exact numbers for every single player from back then, but I managed to find most of them.

So, yeah, that’s my little project for today. It wasn’t exactly rocket science, but it was a fun trip down memory lane, and I ended up with a squad list I feel pretty confident about!
