Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with these TaylorMade P790 irons for a while now, and I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed. It all started when I was looking for something to improve my game. I’m not a pro or anything, just your average guy who enjoys a good round of golf. I heard some buzz about these clubs and thought, “Why not give ’em a shot?”

First thing I did was hit up the local golf store. I tried out a bunch of different irons, but the P790s just felt right. They’ve got this sleek look, but they’re not too flashy. I started off just testing them, swinging a few times, seeing how the ball responded.
The sales guy told me, “These are great for mid-handicappers.” I’m not sure what my handicap really is, maybe around 12 or something? Anyways, these clubs seem to fit that range pretty well. I was noticing a difference right away. The ball was flying further, and straighter. I was also trying the 4-iron loft at 21 degrees as the sales guy recommended.
I ended up buying a set and taking them out to the course. I played a few rounds, experimenting with different shots. I even tried them in different weather conditions, you know, just to see how they held up. I kept track of my scores, how far I was hitting each shot, and how often I was hitting the green.
The P790s are surprisingly forgiving. I mean, I’m not the most consistent player, but these clubs really helped me out. I’d mishit a shot, and it would still go pretty straight. It’s like they have some magic built in or something. The forgiveness really shines in these clubs.
Here’s what I found
- Distance: I’m definitely hitting the ball further with these. Not like a crazy amount, but enough to notice.
- Accuracy: My shots are more accurate, which is huge for me. I feel more confident standing over the ball.
- Feel: They feel solid and smooth. Like, when you hit the sweet spot, you just know it.
- Looks: They look great in my bag. Not that it matters that much, but it’s a nice bonus.
I kept playing with them, week after week. I even joined a local league, just to get more time on the course. I’m still using these clubs, and I don’t see myself switching anytime soon. It seems that I can use them for a long time.

So, yeah, that’s my experience with the TaylorMade P790 irons. They’re not a miracle cure or anything, but they’ve definitely helped me improve my game. If you’re a mid-handicapper looking for some new irons, I’d say give these a try. You might be surprised at how much you like them. They’re definitely worth a shot.
That’s it for my little experiment and review. Hope this helps someone out there who’s thinking about these clubs!
