Next Athletic Elfsborg game? Schedule and what to expect preview!

Must read

Alright let’s dive right into what this Athletic – Elfsborg thing was all about. Honestly, it sounded kinda fancy but really, it was just me trying to copy some training ideas I read about that IF Elfsborg uses, you know that Swedish football team? Saw something about their conditioning.

First Up – Trying to Figure Out the Gist

Did some digging online, mostly blog stuff written by other people trying similar things. Couldn’t find an exact Elfsborg plan, obviously. What kept popping up was lots of running, but like really specific running. Not just jogging, but changing speeds constantly. Like sprint a bit, jog, sprint again, walk… sounded messy. Also, stuff about core strength and how they probably train in bursts. Figured that was enough to go on.

So, gathered my junk:

  • Old running shoes (probably too old, but who cares)
  • Stopwatch app on my phone (the timer app, nothing fancy)
  • A park nearby with a decent stretch of grass
  • Some water (forgot the bottle cap, classic)

Getting Down to Business

Just started walking to the park, feeling kinda pumped but also thinking “this might suck.” Got to the grass, stretched for maybe like 3 minutes tops. Honestly, just touched my toes a couple times, swung my arms. Ready? Eh, good enough.

Here’s what I told myself to do:

  • Jog easily for a minute to pretend warm up.
  • Then do like 30 seconds kinda fast.
  • Walk for 30 seconds right after, catch breath.
  • Then just flat out sprint as hard as I could manage for like 20 seconds.
  • Walk again, probably longer than 30 seconds this time…
  • Repeat this whole messy cycle. Aimed for 10 rounds? Lol, no way.

Started okay. Jogging felt fine. The “kinda fast” bit was harder than expected. Then the first sprint… ugh. Legs felt like lead after 10 seconds. Walked for way longer than planned, hands on knees, huffing. That stopwatch beeped way too fast for the next sprint bit. Honestly, it felt brutal. Sweat pouring by round 4. Made it to round 6. Round 6! Body just said NOPE. Couldn’t even fake the sprint anymore, just stumbled.

Fell onto the grass, stared at the sky. Chest was pounding. It felt like fire in my lungs. Legs were shaky. Sat there for ages just drinking my uncapped water, spilling half of it.

What Happened Afterwards & Thoughts

Shower felt amazing, but later that day? Ouch. Stairs were the enemy. Everything ached – thighs, butt, even my arms a bit?! Weird. Took like two days before walking felt normal again.

Yeah, so lessons learned? Elfsborg’s players are absolute machines. This Athletic style training is no joke. It looks simple reading about changing speeds, but actually doing it? It kicks your ass properly. Way harder than just running the same pace forever. Makes sense for football players running up and down a pitch. Might try it again sometime… but maybe start with like, 4 rounds next time? Baby steps.
