New to Crowley? Start with the First Episode – A Quick Guide!

Must read

Okay, here’s my blog post about trying out “Crowley First Episode”:

So, I finally decided to give this “Crowley” thing a shot. Heard some buzz about it, figured, why not? It’s supposed to be, like, a choose-your-own-adventure story, right? I’m always up for those.

Getting Started

First, I had to, you know, actually find the thing. Took a bit of digging around, but eventually I got it downloaded and installed. No biggie there, pretty standard stuff. I fired it up, and was greeted with, well, not much, really. Just a plain-looking window. Not exactly blowing my mind with fancy graphics, but hey, it’s the story that matters, right?

The First Few Steps

I started poking around. There were some buttons, some text boxes… looked like I was supposed to type something in. I tried a few basic commands, like “look around,” “examine,” stuff like that. The program responded, describing the scene, setting the stage. Okay, I’m in some creepy old mansion. Got it.

  • First command: “look around” – Basic, but had to start somewhere.
  • Response: Got a description of a dusty old room. Spooky!

Figuring Things Out

Then I started trying to interact with things. “Open the door,” “pick up the book,” you get the idea. Some things worked, some didn’t. I guess that’s part of the fun, figuring out what you can and can’t do. Had a few moments where I was like, “Wait, what?” but eventually I started to get the hang of it.

I really get used to type words to control, it makes me fell like back to old time.

My First “Aha!” Moment

I spent a good chunk of time just trying random stuff. I won’t lie, I got a little frustrated at times. But then, I finally stumbled upon something that actually worked. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say it involved a key and a locked chest. Felt pretty good, like I’d actually accomplished something.

Wrapping Up (For Now)

I played for maybe an hour or so. Didn’t get super far, but I feel like I’m starting to understand the game’s logic. It’s definitely old-school, no hand-holding here. You gotta use your brain, experiment, and be prepared to fail a few times. It even get crashed for a while, but I restarted and went through it.

I’m gonna keep at it. See if I can actually make some progress. Might even document my journey, who knows? If you’re into this kind of text-based adventure, give it a try. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve. And hey, if you figure out anything cool, let me know!
