Alright, so I decided to take on this “750 score challenge” thing. I’d seen a few people talking about it online, and honestly, I was pretty skeptical. Could I really boost my credit score that much? It felt like a long shot, but I figured, why not give it a try? I was sitting at a not-so-great score, somewhere in the low 600s, so I definitely had room for improvement.

Phase 1: Getting My Ducks in a Row

First things first, I needed to figure out what was actually going on with my credit. I pulled my credit reports from all three major bureaus – you know, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Gotta see the damage before you can fix it, right?

Turns out, it wasn’t pretty. I had a couple of late payments from a few years back (oops!), a maxed-out credit card, and a small collection account from an old medical bill I thought I’d paid. Seeing it all laid out like that was a bit of a wake-up call.

Phase 2: Tackling the Low-Hanging Fruit

Okay, time to get to work. I started with the easiest stuff. I called up the collection agency for that medical bill. Turns out, it was only like $100. I paid it off immediately, and they agreed to remove it from my report. Boom! One problem down.

Next, I focused on that maxed-out credit card. I had some savings, so I decided to just pay the whole dang thing off. It hurt a little, but I knew it would make a big difference. I also set up automatic payments for all my bills. No more late payments for this guy!

Phase 3: The Waiting Game (and Some Extra Effort)

After taking those initial steps, it was mostly a waiting game. I knew it would take time for these changes to reflect on my credit report. But I didn’t just sit around twiddling my thumbs.

I was checking my credit report, I did find I still had some debt.

So, I also did the followings:

  • Kept my credit card balances low. I made sure to pay them off in full every month.
  • Used my credit cards responsibly. No impulse purchases! I only used them for things I could afford to pay back immediately.
  • Kept an eye on my credit reports. I wanted to make sure everything was updating correctly and that there were no new surprises.

Phase 4: The Results!

It took a few months, but slowly but surely, I started seeing my score creep up. First, it hit the high 600s, then the low 700s. And finally, after about six months of consistent effort, I hit my goal: 750!

Was it easy? Nope. Did it require some discipline and sacrifice? Absolutely. But was it worth it? Heck yeah! Seeing that 750 on my credit report felt amazing. It’s like a weight had been lifted. It just goes to show that with a little effort and the right plan, you can make big changes to your financial situation.
