MT 10 Top Speed Unleashed: Whats the Real Number?

Must read

Today, I decided to take my Yamaha MT-10 for a spin to see what she could really do. I’ve heard all sorts of numbers thrown around about its top speed, and I wanted to find out for myself.

MT 10 Top Speed Unleashed: Whats the Real Number?

First off, I made sure I was in a safe, controlled environment. You know, not some public road where I’d be putting myself and others at risk. Safety first, always! I geared up with my helmet, jacket, the whole nine yards. Gotta be prepared, right?

I started slow, getting a feel for the bike. This thing is a beast, by the way. The power is just insane. It’s a 2023 model, and let me tell you, Yamaha did not hold back. It is a naked bike though, kind of like its little brothers, the MT-07 and MT-09, so I knew aerodynamics weren’t exactly going to be its strong suit.

  • Warming up: I did a few laps, gradually increasing my speed. The engine, taken from the R1, is a masterpiece. It’s been tweaked for more mid-range, and boy, does it deliver. Wheelies? Oh yeah, this thing loves to lift the front wheel.

  • Hitting the higher speeds: Once I felt comfortable, I started pushing it. Getting past 100 mph was a breeze. The acceleration is just brutal. But as I got closer to 150 mph, I could feel the wind resistance really starting to fight back.

The MT-10 is said to have some electronic limiters, especially on the US models (mine’s a FZ-10, so you know it’s from the States). Some folks say it kicks in around 132-135 mph. I’ve heard of people reflashing their ECUs to get rid of that, but mine is stock, for now, anyway.

The Final Push

I tucked in as best as I could. It’s not easy on a naked bike, let me tell you. I was practically hugging the tank. The wind was screaming, the engine was roaring, and I was fully committed. I managed to get it up to an indicated 150 mph. The bike was stable, I’ll give it that, but it was clear it was working hard.

I’ve heard rumors of people hitting 155 mph, maybe even a bit more with some modifications. But honestly, on that day, with that setup, I felt like I had reached the practical limit. It wasn’t about the bike not being capable, but more about the conditions and the sheer force of the wind at those speeds.

So, there you have it. My personal top-speed run on the MT-10. It was a wild ride, and I’m happy to report that both the bike and I made it back in one piece. Remember, it’s not just about the numbers, it’s about the experience. And trust me, this was one experience I won’t be forgetting anytime soon!
