Okay, so I wanted to get into boxing, you know? Just to try something new and get a bit of a workout. I started looking into it, and there are these two main styles, Orthodox and Southpaw. I went with Orthodox ’cause it seemed like the standard way to go. Most people are right-handed, right?
So, first things first, I had to get the stance down. I’m right-handed, so I put my left foot forward. It felt a bit weird at first, like I was gonna trip over myself. Then, it was all about getting my hands in the right position. I brought my left hand up, kind of in front of my face, and my right hand a bit further back, closer to my chin.
I practiced this a bunch, just standing there, shifting my weight, trying to feel balanced. I watched some videos online, you know, just regular people showing how they do it, and I realized it wasn’t just about standing still. I started moving around, shuffling my feet, keeping that basic stance. Then I found out that moving your head is a big deal. I started bobbing and weaving, trying to move my head while throwing punches. It’s harder than it looks, man!
I spent a good few days just getting used to the basic movements. Then I started trying to actually punch something. I don’t have a bag or anything, so I was just shadow boxing, throwing punches at the air. I tried to keep my punches straight, you know, not wild and all over the place. I felt so uncoordinated at first, throwing random punches in the air.
After a while, I wanted to make it a bit more interesting. I started imagining an opponent in front of me. I’d move around, try to slip their imaginary punches, and then throw my own. I really tried to imagine what an actual fight would feel like and it was actually exciting.
I’ve been doing this for a few weeks now, and I’m definitely getting better. I still feel a bit clumsy sometimes, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. It’s a good workout, and it’s kind of fun pretending to be a boxer, even if it’s just in my living room. I might even join a real gym someday. I’ve heard that the swarmer style is a real challenge, maybe I will try that one out in the future, who knows.

- Left foot forward if you’re right-handed.
- Left hand up in front, right hand near your chin.
- Practice moving, not just standing still.
- Move your head, don’t be a statue.
- Shadow boxing is a good way to start.
My simple tips:
It’s all about practice, really. Just keep at it, and you’ll get better. And have fun with it!
