I went to Mason to see a tennis tournament a few days ago. You guys have no idea. It was really something.
I’m not really a tennis guy. I mean, I know about it, but I don’t really watch it. But my buddy was like, “Dude, you gotta come to Mason with me. There’s this big tennis tournament, and it’s gonna be awesome.” And I was like, “Alright, why not?”
So, we drove over to Mason. It’s a pretty nice little town, kinda peaceful and quiet, and they call it the “Winningest Tennis Town in Texas”. I didn’t really get it at first, but then we got to the tournament, and it all made sense.
It was like a whole other world. You know, I’ve been to basketball games, baseball games, but this… this was different. There were these courts everywhere, all hardcourts, and people were just rallying back and forth, and you could hear the thwack of the ball, the squeak of the shoes, the grunts of the players. The first day we got there, it was already pretty late, so we just walked around and checked the place out. It seemed like a huge place, and I found it is one of the biggest tournaments along with Miami Open, Indian Wells Open, and even the US Open.
The next day, we got there early. I made sure to wear comfy sandals, brought a hat, and put on some sunscreen because, man, it was sunny. I learned that you can’t bring your own food or drinks, except for one water bottle. But that’s okay, they had all kinds of stuff to buy there.
The tennis was the best part, though. I didn’t even know these players, some guys named Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek were apparently the top-ranked players there. They were crazy good. It’s like, they were so focused, so intense. And the crowd, they were into it. Every point, every game, it was like this big drama playing out. Usually, it takes a player about winning four to six matches to win the whole thing.
- First, we went to watch some matches. People are moving their bodies and hitting the ball so hard and precisely.
- Then, we went to grab some food and drinks.
- After that, we went back to the court and kept watching more matches.
I gotta say, I was impressed. I mean, I didn’t expect to get so caught up in it, but I did. It was exciting, it was fun, and it was just a really cool experience. We watched it on the spot, but I learned that you can watch it live on something called Tennis Channel, or T2 on Amazon Prime, Roku, and some other places.
So yeah, that was my trip to the Mason tennis tournament. It was a blast. If you ever get a chance to go to one of these things, do it. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
Oh, and one more thing. Even if you’re not a big tennis fan, give it a shot. You might surprise yourself. I know I did.
