Looking back at the amazing 2013-14 spurs roster: See the full list of players who won the title.

Must read

Okay, so I was thinking about that awesome 2013-14 Spurs team the other day. You know, the one that won it all. It feels like ages ago, and I wanted to piece together who was actually wearing the silver and black that season.

Getting Started – Just Thinking Back

First, I just sat back and tried to remember off the top of my head. The big names popped up right away, of course.

  • Tim Duncan, obviously. The Big Fundamental.
  • Tony Parker, running the point.
  • Manu Ginobili, Mr. Eurostep off the bench.

Those three were locks. Then I thought, okay, who else was starting? Kawhi Leonard, yeah, he was really starting to become Kawhi that year, especially in the Finals. Danny Green was there too, hitting threes.

Digging a Little Deeper – The Role Players

Alright, so that’s the main core. But a championship team is more than just the stars. I started racking my brain for the other guys.

Boris Diaw! Yeah, the passer, the coffee guy. He was crucial. Tiago Splitter was the starting center alongside Duncan for a lot of it. Patty Mills, the energy sparkplug off the bench, definitely him. Marco Belinelli was there too, hitting shots.

This is where it got a bit fuzzy. Who else filled out the roster? I remembered Matt Bonner, the Red Mamba. Cory Joseph was the backup point guard, right? Before he went off to Toronto.

Checking My Memory – Had to Look It Up

At this point, I wasn’t totally sure if I had everyone, or if I was mixing up years slightly. So, I did what anyone would do, I went to look it up. Fired up the old computer, typed something like “2014 Spurs roster” into the search bar.

Found a bunch of sports sites listing it out. Okay, let’s see…

  • Yep, got Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Leonard, Green.
  • Splitter, Diaw, Mills, Belinelli, Joseph, Bonner – checked those off.

Ah, I forgot about Jeff Ayres (used to be Jeff Pendergraph). He was on the end of the bench. And Austin Daye was there for a bit too, though I don’t remember him playing much. Aron Baynes! How could I forget Baynes? He played some decent minutes as a backup big.

Damion James was also listed on some rosters, though I barely remember him playing that year. Maybe just a few games.

Final Tally – Putting it Together

So, after jogging my memory and then doing a quick search to confirm, here’s who I landed on for that 2013-14 championship squad:

  • Starters/Key Rotation: Danny Green, Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw
  • Bench Mob: Patty Mills, Marco Belinelli, Cory Joseph, Aron Baynes, Matt Bonner

Man, what a team that was. Not just the talent, but how they played together. It was fun just going through the process of remembering all those guys who contributed to that title. Great season.
