Okay, so the other day I got to thinking about the Niners, specifically that period right after the Super Bowl run. The year 2014 popped into my head. I couldn’t quite remember how they finished up that season, felt like a bit of a weird one after all the success.
So, what I did was pretty straightforward. I grabbed my tablet while sitting on the couch. Opened up my usual browser, you know, the one I always use. Went straight to the search bar.
I typed in something simple, probably just “niners record 2014”. Didn’t need anything fancy. Hit enter and waited for the results to load up. Took just a second.
Loads of stuff came back, sports stats sites, news articles from back then. I usually just glance at the quick answer box Google sometimes shows, or click on one of the first couple of links that look reliable, like the official league site or a big sports network page.
Finding the Actual Record
Clicked on one, I think it might have been ESPN or maybe Pro-Football-Reference, I use that one a lot for historical stuff. Scrolled down past the ads and headlines.
And there it was, plain as day. The San Francisco 49ers finished the 2014 season with an 8-8 record. Eight wins, eight losses. Perfectly mediocre, I guess.
Seeing that 8-8 really brought it back. Yeah, that felt right. It wasn’t a terrible season, but definitely a step back from the years just before it. Remember feeling pretty disappointed back then. It was Harbaugh’s last year as coach too, wasn’t it? You could kind of feel things were heading for a change. Just couldn’t quite recapture that magic from 2011 to 2013. A frustrating season to watch, thinking back on it.
Anyway, that was the process. Just a quick search to satisfy my curiosity about that specific year. Took maybe a minute or two, start to finish. Simple enough.
