Okay, so I wanted to mess around with some old baseball data, specifically the 2013 LA Dodgers lineup. I’ve always been a huge Dodgers fan, and that year was pretty memorable, even though they didn’t win it all.

First, I started by digging through some old websites. I knew I needed to find a reliable source for the roster and the usual batting order. It’s surprisingly hard to find this stuff neatly organized after all these years!
After some searching, I finally found a few sites that had game-by-game box scores. This was perfect because it wasn’t just the roster, but how the lineup actually changed throughout the season.
My Process
- Gather Data: I spent a good chunk of time just copying and pasting names and positions from these box scores into a * gets really detailed to organize, I need to find the rules one by one.
- Identify the “Usual” Lineup: This was tricky. I had to look for patterns. Which players were consistently starting? What was the most common batting order? It wasn’t always the same, because of injuries, rest days, and all that.
- Note the Variations: I also made notes about who played when certain players were out. Like, who filled in for Hanley Ramirez when he was hurt? Stuff like that.
It was kind of like detective work, piecing together the information. I had to cross-reference different sources to make sure I wasn’t making any mistakes. Baseball-Reference was a lifesaver, to be honest.
It also took a while to collect the information and make sure it was *’s a long season.
Eventually, I managed to create a pretty clear picture of the Dodgers’ main lineup and the common variations. It was cool to see how it all came together and remember some of those players I hadn’t thought about in a while.
