KD on SuperSonics: What did he really say about his time in Seattle?

Must read

Okay, let’s talk about this KD on the Sonics thing. It popped into my head the other day, wasn’t even sure why. Maybe saw something, an old picture, I don’t know. But it stuck with me.

So, I figured, why not actually spend some time on it? Not just a passing thought, but really sit down and sort of… relive it? That was my little project for the afternoon.

Digging In

First thing I did was just close my eyes and try to remember that feeling. That rookie year buzz. It was something else, right? This skinny kid, coming in with all the hype. We all watched, wondering if he’d live up to it.

Then I started actually looking through some old stuff I have saved. Not online, like, actual old digital folders on a backup drive. Found some game summaries I’d clipped, some forum posts I saved way back when. It’s funny what you hang onto.

  • I remembered watching those early games. Seeing him pull up for jumpers. He was scoring, yeah, but the team… well, it was rough.
  • I focused on just his plays for a bit. Ignored the wins and losses. Just watched how he moved, how he shot over guys even back then.
  • Found myself thinking about the potential. What that team could have been if they’d stayed in Seattle. That’s the kicker, isn’t it?

The Feeling

Going through this whole exercise, it wasn’t just about stats or highlights. It was about remembering the hope around that time. A genuine feeling that something special was starting. And mixed in with that, the sadness of knowing how it ended. The team leaving town.

It’s a weird mix of emotions. You appreciate seeing the start of a great player, someone truly generational. But you can’t separate it from the Sonics leaving. It’s all tangled up.

What Came Out Of It

So after spending a few hours just digging through memories and old digital bits, what did I get? Well, a strong dose of nostalgia, for sure. A clearer picture in my head of that specific, short moment in time. Not just “KD played for the Sonics,” but the feel of it.

It was a good reminder. Sometimes you gotta just sit with a memory, turn it over, look at it from different sides. That was my practice for the day. Just remembering KD on the Sonics, properly.
