Is TMNT Blue Mask for You? (Learn About the Leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Must read

Alright, so I’ve been wanting to make a Leonardo blue mask for a while now, just like in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You know, Leonardo, the leader guy, always calm and collected, with those cool twin katanas? That’s the vibe I’m going for.

First, I got myself some blue fabric. I figured this was the most important part, getting the right color. It’s gotta be that specific ocean blue, not just any blue, you feel me?

  • Finding the fabric was a bit of a mission, had to hop around a few stores.
  • Finally settled on this nice, stretchy material, seemed like it would be comfy.

Next up, I needed a pattern. I ain’t no sewing expert, so I grabbed a simple mask pattern online. I printed it out and traced it onto the fabric. I mean, this part was pretty straightforward. Even I could handle that.

Then came the tricky part – the sewing. I dusted off my mom’s old sewing machine, watched a couple of YouTube videos to refresh my memory on how to thread the damn thing, and got to work.

  • Stitched the two pieces of fabric together. Man, keeping those lines straight was harder than it looked.
  • Had to redo a few seams, not gonna lie. The machine was kinda finicky.

Once the basic mask shape was done, I cut out two eye holes. This was kinda nerve-wracking, one wrong snip and it could all be ruined. I measured twice, cut once, like they say.

To make it stay on my face, I attached some elastic bands to the sides. I just sewed them on, nothing fancy. But hey, it worked! I tried to make it look like it was tied, just like Leonardo, you know?

The Final Product

And there you have it! My very own handmade Leonardo blue mask. It’s not perfect, the stitching is a bit wonky in places, and it took me way longer than I expected, but I’m pretty proud of it. I put on the mask and it worked well! Now I can channel my inner ninja turtle whenever I want. Maybe I’ll even get some katanas next… Just kidding! Or am I?
