Alright, so I wanted to try something crafty and kinda trendy – a Nightmare Before Christmas Starbucks cup. I saw a bunch of these online and thought, “Hey, I can do that!” Turns out, it was a bit more involved than I initially imagined, but totally worth it.
First things first, I grabbed a plain Starbucks reusable cold cup. You know, the kind you can get for a few bucks at the counter. Gotta have the canvas, right?
Next up was the design. I’m not an artist by any means, so I searched online for some simple Nightmare Before Christmas stencils. Found a few cool ones featuring Jack Skellington’s face and the spiral hill. Printed those out, sized them to fit the cup, and carefully cut them out using an X-Acto knife. This part took some patience, let me tell you. Almost sliced my fingers off a couple of times!
Now for the fun part: decorating! I bought some adhesive vinyl in black and white. I chose vinyl because it’s waterproof and should hold up pretty well to washing. Using the stencils as guides, I traced the designs onto the vinyl sheets with a pencil. Then, same deal as before, carefully cut out the vinyl shapes. This time, though, I had to be extra careful to peel the vinyl off the backing without ripping it. It’s a bit fiddly.
Before sticking anything on the cup, I thoroughly cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol. This helps the vinyl adhere better. Once it was dry, I started placing the vinyl decals onto the cup, one by one. I made sure to smooth them out with my finger to get rid of any air bubbles. It’s kinda like applying a screen protector to your phone – gotta be smooth!
I wanted to add a little extra flair, so I used a white paint marker to add some small details, like Jack’s teeth and the outlines of the spiral hill. You could also use glitter glue for this part if you’re feeling extra fancy.
Once everything was in place, I let it dry completely for a few hours. Just to make sure the vinyl was really stuck on there.
Finally, the moment of truth! I filled it up with some iced coffee and tested it out. It looked awesome, and the vinyl seemed to be holding up well. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it’s still going strong. I hand-wash it carefully, just to be on the safe side.
Lessons learned:

- Good quality vinyl makes a big difference. Don’t skimp on the materials.
- Hand-washing is definitely the way to go.
