Okay, so I’ve been seeing all this hype around Paul Skenes, the number one draft pick from 2023. Everyone’s talking about him like he’s the next big thing, so I decided to dig in and see what all the fuss was about. I mean, the guy’s got a base salary of $740,000 annually, that’s crazy, right?
First, I looked up some background info. Turns out, this guy was a total beast at LSU, leading them to the College World Series title. Not only that, but he’s also huge, 6’6″ and 247 pounds. He was a pitcher, yeah, but he could hit, too. He’s a total package. And his contract put him close to the $10 million mark for his net worth, geez!
Then, I started watching some of his games. Holy cow, this guy’s fastball is insane! We’re talking 99 to 100 mph. And he’s not just a one-trick pony. He’s got this crazy pitch called a “splinker” – some kind of mix between a splitter and a sinker – that’s supposed to be one of the best pitches in the game right now. Plus, he can throw a slider and a curveball. He’s got a whole arsenal, not just heat.
