Alright, folks, gather ’round, because today I’m gonna share my little adventure of trying to qualify for the Coca-Cola 600. It’s a big deal, you know, a real crown jewel race in the NASCAR season. This thing is a beast – 400 laps, 600 miles, and it can take over four, even five hours to finish! And the purse? Just over $9.8 million. Winner could grab like 700k to 900k, what a big prize!

So, I started like everyone else, checking out the odds. Truex was at 10-1, Kyle Larson was the favorite at 19-4, and my man Denny Hamlin was 6-1. Last year’s champ, Ryan Blaney, he was at 17-2. But hey, odds are just numbers, right?
The first thing I did was tune in to the qualifying order announcement. You gotta know when your turn is, or you’re already behind the eight ball. I found out it was all going down on Saturday night, and I made sure to mark that on my calendar with a big red circle. This is a big deal to everyone!
Practice, Practice, Practice
- I spent hours on the track, just driving and driving. Getting a feel for the car, the track, and trying to find that perfect line. It’s not just about going fast; it’s about being smooth and consistent, especially on a long race like this. It’s so hot outside and I had to wear thick clothes. It’s really hard to breath!
- Worked with my crew chief, going over data, tweaking the car setup. We tried different tire pressures, different gear ratios, just trying to squeeze every bit of speed out of that machine. I think we changed several settings to get a better speed.
- Studied the track. I mean really studied it. Every bump, every groove, every little detail. You gotta know where you can push it and where you gotta hold back. Watched other drivers and how they control their cars.
Qualifying Night
When Saturday night finally rolled around, I was a bundle of nerves. But, you know, I felt ready. I went out there and gave it my all. The car felt good, and I hit my marks. It wasn’t perfect, but it was solid. This is really exciting! I’m so nervous when I’m driving!

The Waiting Game
After the run, it was just a waiting game. Watching the other drivers take their shots, hoping my time would hold up. It was torture, I tell ya! I was so anxious to wait for the result! And other drivers are also waiting, it’s like a big party.
In the end, I didn’t get the pole, but I made the show. And that’s what counts. We’re in the Coca-Cola 600! It’s a dream come true, and I couldn’t be prouder of myself and my team. We made it and we should be proud of ourselves! The race itself is gonna be a whole different animal, but for now, I’m just gonna enjoy this moment. So happy to share this with you guys!
Make sure you tune in to Fox this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. You won’t wanna miss it. I will share the race experience next time. See you guys!
