My Afternoon Looking into Austin Hill’s Numbers
So, I found myself with a bit of downtime today and got to thinking about NASCAR, specifically the Xfinity series. Austin Hill’s name keeps coming up, you know? People talking about his wins, especially at certain tracks. I kinda had a vague idea, but I wanted to actually sit down and look at the hard stats myself. See what the real story is, not just the highlight reels.
First thing I did was just search his name, obviously. Got a flood of results, race reports, news articles. Had to wade through that a bit to find the places that just lay out the career numbers. It’s always a bit of a hunt, trying to find a site that presents it clearly without wanting you to sign up for fifty things.
Digging into the Performance
I started focusing on his Xfinity career mainly, since that’s where he’s made the most noise recently. What I was looking for specifically were things like:
- Wins (obviously)
- Top 5 finishes
- Top 10 finishes
- Average start and finish positions
- Performance on different track types (superspeedways, short tracks, road courses, etc.)
It took a while to piece it together from a couple of different stat pages. You know how it is, one site has good season summaries, another has better track-specific data.
What Stood Out To Me
Okay, the superspeedway thing is real. Those Daytona wins aren’t flukes; he seems to have a knack for that kind of racing. Talladega too. That was clear pretty quick. His win count is solid for the time he’s been running full-time in Xfinity.
But then I looked deeper, beyond just the wins. His consistency, maybe? Checking the top 5s and top 10s gave a better picture. He racks ’em up, definitely a front-runner often. But like many drivers, you see streaks. Some tracks he’s lights out, others maybe less so. The average finish stat sometimes tells a different story than just the wins list. A few bad races can really drag that average down, even if you have spectacular victories.
I spent a good hour just clicking around, comparing seasons, looking at his progression from his earlier days to now. You can definitely see improvement over time, which is what you wanna see in a driver making his way up.
So yeah, that was my little project for the afternoon. Didn’t really use any fancy tools, just browsed around and took some mental notes. Confirmed some things I thought I knew, learned a bit more about his overall consistency. He’s definitely a guy to watch, especially when they roll into Daytona or Talladega. Now I feel like I actually know a bit more when his name comes up next time.
