Okay, so the other day, I was watching a hockey game with a buddy, and the game went into a shootout. Afterward, my friend was looking at the stats and goes, “What does ‘S/O’ mean here?” I gotta admit, I was stumped for a second. I mean, I watch hockey all the time, but I’d never really paid attention to that particular stat. So, I did what any self-respecting hockey fan would do – I looked it up!

My Research Journey
First, I grabbed my phone and fired up the good ol’ search engine. I typed in something like “hockey stats S/O meaning”.
- Initially, I scrolled through a few general sports websites, but they were mostly talking about soccer “shoutouts”—definitely not what I needed.
- Then, I narrowed my search, to be more specific for “hockey”.
- Finally, I found it! Several hockey-specific sites and forums were all saying the same thing.
Turns out, S/O stands for “Shootout.” Makes sense, right? It’s the stat that shows how many shootout attempts a player or team has had, and how many times they’ve scored.
So there might be 2 stats, S/O Attempts, then S/O Goals.
Putting It All Together
So, I explained this to my buddy, and we both had a good chuckle about how obvious it seemed after we knew the answer. Now I can finally read and understand this data. I shared this on other platform, and my friends also found this very helpful!
