High Oak: Is This the Right Tree for Your Garden?

Must read

OK, so I’m going to share how I planted a “high oak” tree in my backyard. I had never planted a tree before, so I decided to get help from the Internet.

High Oak: Is This the Right Tree for Your Garden?

I started by searching for some fast-growing trees that would provide good shade. I also wanted something native to my area and drought-tolerant. After some looking around, I found that Mexican white oak and chinquapin oak were highly recommended. The Internet said they were fast-growing, and good for shade. I decided to go with the Mexican white oak because it sounded fancy.

The next step was to actually get a tree. I went to a local nursery, and they had a few Mexican white oaks. I picked one that looked healthy and wasn’t too big to fit in my car. It was still pretty heavy, though!

Once I got it home, I had to figure out where to plant it. I picked a spot in my backyard that got plenty of sun and was far enough away from the house and power lines. Then came the hard part – digging the hole. It took me a while, but I finally dug a hole that was about twice as wide as the root ball of the tree and just as deep.

After that, I carefully took the tree out of its container and placed it in the hole. I made sure it was straight, and then I started filling the hole back in with the dirt I had dug out. I watered it a lot to help settle the soil. I also put some mulch around the base of the tree to help keep the moisture in.

It’s been about five years now, and that little oak tree has grown like crazy! It totally changed my backyard. I now have a beautiful, shaded area where I can relax and enjoy the outdoors. It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it. I’m so glad I decided to plant that tree. Now I have a nice place to relax and get some shade in my backyard.
