Has an NBA Team Ever Gone Undefeated in the Playoffs? Records Checked!

Must read

Okay, so I was watching the NBA playoffs the other day, and this question popped into my head: “Has any NBA team ever gone undefeated in the playoffs?” I mean, it sounds crazy, right? So, I decided to find out.

Digging for the Answer

First, I fired up Google. Just a simple search to see what would come up. I typed in something like “NBA teams undefeated playoffs”.

The search results gave me a bunch of articles and forum discussions. I started clicking through them, skimming for any quick answers. I saw a lot of talk about the best playoff records, but nothing that screamed “UNDEFEATED!” at first.

I kept reading, and found some interesting lists. There was the 2017 Golden State Warriors, for example. I learned that they went 16-1, came super close, only losing one game in the Finals.

  • 2017 Golden State Warriors: 16-1
  • Some other teams with great records, but still, not perfect.

Then, I dug a bit deeper, looking at older teams. I was thinking, “Maybe back in the day, when there were fewer playoff rounds, it was easier?”

After searching for old information, I get the conclusion.

The Verdict?

Nope. Sadly, after all that searching, I found out that no NBA team has ever had a completely undefeated playoff run. It’s just too tough! There are so many good teams, and the playoffs are so intense, that losing at least one game seems almost inevitable. The 2017 Warriors got the closest I could find, but even they couldn’t pull off the perfect run.
