Alright, so I wanted to check out the races at Harrah’s Philadelphia the other day. I’m not a big gambler or anything, but I figured it would be a fun way to spend an afternoon. Plus, I was curious to see how all that stuff works.

First, I needed to figure out when the races were even happening. The website was a little confusing, but I eventually found a section that said “Select a track to view race dates.” Made sense. Clicked on that and found out they had live racing coming up soon.
Next, I wanted to get a feel for the horses. I mean, I wasn’t planning on betting my life savings, but I wanted to at least have a clue who I was watching. There was a bunch of information about “past performances,” which I guess is like a horse’s track record. Sounded complicated, but I found this thing called “Philly’s Finest” which seemed like a good place to start.
- Looked up each horse – I went through each horse listed in the races I was interested in. Each one had a whole profile, showing their past race results and stuff like that.
- Tried to make sense of it – Honestly, a lot of it was over my head. There were all these numbers and abbreviations. I mainly focused on how often they placed in the top three. Figured that was a decent indicator.
- Made some wild guesses – Based on my very limited understanding, I picked a few horses that seemed like they had a shot. Totally scientific, I know.
On race day, I headed over to the track. It was pretty cool to see the horses up close. I grabbed a program and tried to follow along with my “expert” picks.
They had these big screens showing the races live, which was awesome. It was way more exciting than I expected! My horses didn’t exactly sweep the competition, but hey, a couple of them actually did okay.
Getting the Results
After the races, I wanted to see the official results. Found a section on the website with all the race replays and results. Pretty neat.

- Checked the results – Matched up the race numbers with the results. Saw how my picks actually did.
- Watched the replays – This was cool. I could re-watch the races and see how it all played out. Even saw a close finish that I missed live!
All in all, it was a fun experience. I definitely didn’t become a horse racing expert overnight, but I learned a bit and had a good time. Might even go back again sometime. Maybe next time, I’ll actually win some money!
