Hey guys, it’s been a while! Today I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately – the Liga MX goal-scoring table. You know, keeping track of who’s netting the most goals in the Mexican football league. It’s a fun little project I started, and I figured I’d share my process with y’all.

So, first things first, I needed to find the data. Where could I get the latest stats on who’s scoring and how many goals they’ve got? I started with a simple web search. I typed in something like “Liga MX top scorers” and started digging through the results.
Finding the Right Source
There are tons of sites out there that have sports stats, but I wanted something reliable and, ideally, updated pretty frequently. I ended up going with a couple of sports news sites that seemed to have what I was looking for. At first I tried my go-to sports website, but then I realized that I also needed historical data, so I switched to another one with a more extensive archive. They had detailed tables with player names, the teams they play for, and their goal counts. That was a good start.
Collecting the Data
Now that I had my sources, I started, well, basically copying and pasting the info into a spreadsheet. Yeah, it was a bit tedious, but I wanted to have all the data in one place where I could easily sort it and play around with it. I made columns for the player’s name, their team, and the number of goals. I found out that Paulinho from Toluca, ngel Seplveda from Cruz Azul, Sergio Canales from Monterrey and Rodolfo Rotondi from Cruz Azul are all top players with the same scores!
Keeping it Updated
- After getting the initial data down, I realized I needed to keep this thing updated.
- I set a reminder to check the websites every week or so after the games were played.
- This part was honestly a bit of a pain, manually updating the spreadsheet each time.
But hey, seeing the table change and watching certain players climb up the ranks was pretty cool.
Making Sense of it All
Once I had a decent amount of data, I started to look for patterns. Which teams had the most top scorers? Were there any surprises? For example, I found that Toluca’s Joao Paulo Dias is performing exceptionally well this season. I also noticed that players from teams like Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Pumas, Tigres, Len, Chivas, and Amrica were frequently among the top scorers.

It was interesting to see how the rankings shifted over time, especially after some big matches. I realized that I should probably go back further and collect data from previous seasons, like 2022-23, to get a bigger picture.
This whole thing started as just a way to keep track of the top scorers, but it turned into a fun little data project. I’m not a stats expert or anything, but it was cool to gather all this info and see it all come together. I might even try to visualize it somehow later on, maybe make some charts or graphs. Who knows! Anyway, that’s my little Liga MX goal-scoring table adventure so far. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s been a fun way to keep up with the league and learn a thing or two about organizing data. Hope you guys found this interesting!
