Alright, so today I want to talk about some games that are kind of like Dead Space. You know, that survival horror game that just totally freaked everyone out a while back? I dug into it, played a bunch of other games, and here’s what I found.
First off, I started with The Callisto Protocol. I mean, it’s practically a given, right? This game was made by the same guy who did Dead Space, so it’s got that same vibe. Played through it, and yeah, it’s spooky, it’s intense, but somehow it didn’t grab people the same way as Dead Space. Critics were kinda mixed on it, which surprised me. I guess it is kind of different.
Then I jumped into Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Now, this one, this is like the king of modern horror games. Everyone says it. I played it, and man, it’s scary as hell. It’s not quite like Dead Space, more psychological, but it definitely gets under your skin. I had to take breaks, no joke.
I also checked out some older titles. You hear a lot about the Resident Evil series. I played a few of those, and I get it. They’re the granddaddies of survival horror. There is something about these games that just work, even the older ones. Creepy, tense, you’re always on edge. I see why people love them.
- I also found some lists of other games that people say are similar. Games like Silent Hill, Fatal Frame. They’re all about that survival horror feel.
- Then there was Alan Wake Remastered. It came out in 2010, but I gave it a shot. It’s more of a thriller, but it has its moments.
- Prey from 2017. It was a reboot or something, but it has that sci-fi horror thing going on. I played it for a bit, but it didn’t fully grab me.
- And of course, The Last of Us. A lot of people say it’s pure horror, but I’m not sure. It’s more of an emotional rollercoaster, but definitely worth playing.
I even looked up games that are just survival horror in space, like Dead Space. There is also a game called System Shock 2, BioShock, Doom 3. I haven’t played these yet, but they’re on my list now.
What I Realized
So, after playing all these games, I realized that finding something exactly like Dead Space is tough. They all have bits and pieces, some are scarier, some have better stories, but none of them hit that exact same spot. But it was a fun ride, trying them all out. I guess Dead Space just has its own special kind of magic. If you’re into that kind of game, definitely give these others a shot. You might find your new favorite horror game among them.
I spent a good chunk of time on this, and honestly, it was a blast. Horror games aren’t usually my go-to, but this was an interesting deep dive. It’s cool to see how one game can inspire so many others, even if they don’t quite match up to the original.
