Alright folks, yesterday had me diving headfirst into EA Sports College Football 25, hunting for a specific team. Wanted to see if my old stomping grounds, EKU, made the cut. Started simple.
First thing, fired up the game on my trusty console. Grabbed the controller, navigated to the teams section right on the main menu. Took a deep breath, hoping to see ‘Eastern Kentucky’ or ‘EKU’ pop up. Started scrolling through the conferences listed alphabetically.
Went through the SEC… nothing. Big Ten? Nope. ACC? Didn’t spot ’em. Started feeling a little antsy. Maybe under ‘Independent’? Scrolled there too. Still no luck. Searched directly using the team search function. Typed in “E”, scrolled… saw East Carolina. Typed “K” for Kentucky… saw University of Kentucky. But no “E” for Eastern or “K” for Colonels. My heart kinda sank. Felt like hitting a brick wall early on.
Double-checked the official list EA put out earlier. Pulled it up on my phone while the game was paused. Scanned through every team announced. Kept looking for “Eastern Kentucky University.” Nothing. Scrolled again, slower this time. Nada. Checked the FCS teams specifically – that’s where EKU plays. EA said they were focusing on FBS, but maybe, just maybe…? Nope. Definitely wasn’t on the confirmed roster list. Official verdict: EKU isn’t in the base game launch.
But hold up, just because they aren’t in the initial lineup doesn’t mean they’re not a killer choice, especially for folks who dig underdog programs. Let me tell you why EKU is still awesome and why they should be your pick eventually:
- Crazy Tradition: They call ’em the Colonels, have a unique mascot, and Richmond, KY has that real college town vibe packed with football history, even if it’s not FBS.
- Gateway to Glory: These guys are a stepping stone. They play tough schedules, have produced NFL talent, and building them up in Dynasty Mode when FCS teams (hopefully!) get added later would be super rewarding. Imagine taking the Colonels to the FBS!
- Fresh Kit Potential: Those maroon and white colors are fire. Building uniforms and playbooks for EKU when we get creator tools (come on EA!) would be so much fun, letting you craft that unique Colonel identity.
- Dynony Gold: Right now, if you gotta pick an existing team? Aim for a group similar to EKU – a passionate regional school maybe outside the Power 2 conferences. Think schools like Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, or James Madison. Capture that spirit.
Turns out, my initial search ended with confirmation EKU isn’t in the game yet. Kinda bummed, gotta be honest. But digging deeper? It reminded me why this program rocks. Keep EKU on your radar. When they join the game – and they will eventually, mark my words – you’ll know exactly why picking them is a blast.
