FFXIV Calamities: A Simple Explanation for New Players!

Must read

Alright, so today I wanna talk about my little adventure with “FFXIV Calamities.” First off, I jumped into this game not knowing much, just that it had a ton of lore and some crazy events called Calamities. I mean, who wouldn’t be curious about something named like that, right?

FFXIV Calamities: A Simple Explanation for New Players!

So, I started my journey, and boy, was it a slow burn at the beginning. I picked my class, did those newbie quests that everyone does, and slowly started to get the hang of things. I learned that these Calamities are basically these huge disasters that mark the end of what they call Astral Eras. Apparently, there have been a few of these already, each with its own flavor of destruction—like wind, lightning, and fire, which I found out from a cutscene that, if I’m honest, I didn’t fully grasp at first but it made sense later on.

As I dug deeper, doing my main story quests (MSQ as the cool kids call it) and some side quests, I stumbled upon more about these events. They’re caused by these big bads trying to do some weird stuff like messing with the world’s aether. One of the Calamities was this massive flood, caused by mages using up too much aether for their wars, leaving mostly water-aspected aether behind. Talk about magic backfiring, huh?

I also found out that the Ascians, who are these mysterious figures in the game, are behind some of these Calamities. They’re trying to rejoin something called Etheriys’s Reflections to the Source. And then there’s this whole thing about Zodiark and Hydaelyn splitting creation into 13 shards. Man, it’s like, the more you learn, the more there is to know. It’s a deep rabbit hole, but kinda cool to get lost in.

  • Started slow, doing newbie quests and learning the ropes.
  • Discovered that Calamities are huge disasters, each with its unique element.
  • Dug into the lore through MSQ and side quests.
  • Learned about the causes, like the aether imbalance and the Ascians’ schemes.
  • Realized the depth of the lore, with Zodiark, Hydaelyn, and the 13 shards.

Honestly, it’s a lot to take in, but it’s been a blast piecing it all together. Every new bit of info feels like unlocking a piece of this giant puzzle. And yeah, I’m still figuring things out, but that’s part of the fun, right? It is a really big world!

My Advice

FFXIV Calamities: A Simple Explanation for New Players!

For anyone jumping into FFXIV, just take it slow. Enjoy the ride, do your class quests, follow the MSQ, and don’t be afraid to explore. There’s so much to see and learn. And those Calamities? They’re just a part of this massive, epic story that’s waiting to be uncovered. Keep at it, and you’ll find yourself sucked into the world just like I did!
