F1 Money: The Billion-Dollar Business of Formula 1 (How the Sport Generates Its Fortune)

Must read

This here F1, that’s some fancy race car stuff, right? I hear folks talking ’bout it all the time, how much money is in it. Seems like a whole lotta dough flyin’ around them tracks. I seen it on the TV, them cars goin’ zoom, zoom, faster than a greased piglet at the county fair! And the crowds, my lord, bigger than a Sunday potluck after church!

So, where’s all this F1 money comin’ from? Well, from what I gather, it ain’t just one place, no sir. It’s like a big ol’ stew, lots of things tossed in to make it rich. First, you got them races. They gotta pay to have them races, ya know? Like rentin’ out the fairgrounds, but way, way more expensive, I reckon. These places, they pay big bucks to have them F1 cars screamin’ around. They call it “race promotion fees,” fancy words for payin’ to host a race.

Then there’s the TV. Everyone’s watchin’ them cars, right? Well, them TV folks, they gotta pay to show it. Just like we used to pay for that fancy cable TV, ‘cept this is way bigger. They say it’s called “broadcasting fees” or somethin’ like that. They payin’ for the right to show them races to all them people watchin’ at home.

And then, you see them names all over them cars and the track? Like them energy drinks and fancy watches? Well, them companies, they payin’ good money to have their names there. Like when ol’ Jebediah put his name on his prize-winnin’ hog, ‘cept this is on a much bigger scale. They call that “sponsorship,” I think. It is just like advertising. People pay to show off their name on TV.

  • Race fees, that’s a big one.
  • TV folks payin’ to show the races.
  • Companies payin’ to put their names on everything.

They say last year, this F1 thing made more than 2 billion dollars! Can you believe that? That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, and I’ve been around longer than most them trees out back! And in 2024, it seems that they made almost 2.5 billion dollars. It is just too much money!

And them races in America, in Austin and Miami and that Las Vegas place, they say they brought in more than 3 billion dollars! That’s a whole lotta money changing hands. It’s like everybody’s gettin’ a piece of the pie, ‘cept me, of course. I’m just sittin’ here watchin’ it all on the TV.

Now, I also heard that this F1 sport brings lots of money for almost 15 years. They say it is around 30 billion dollars! That is a huge number. I cannot even imagine how much money it is!

They say this F1 thing is a big deal, the “pinnacle of motorsport,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, though. All I know is, them cars go fast, and there’s a whole lot of money involved. And you know what they say, money makes the world go ’round, or in this case, makes them cars go ’round and ’round real fast!

And that F1 teams, they also need money. They got money from what they call FOM payments. I don’t know what FOM is, but it seems that it can give them lots of money!

There was also a show on that Netflix thing, “Drive to Survive,” they call it. Showed all the behind-the-scenes stuff, what happens when the cameras ain’t rollin’ on the track. Made folks even more interested in this F1 thing, I reckon. It seems that it is very popular.

There is also a documentary about F1. I don’t know the name but the actor is famous. I cannot remember his name now. It seems that he is very handsome. Anyway, this documentary talks about the story of Brawn. This also helps F1 get more fans.

It’s a whole different world from what I know. We got our own races here, you know, the pig races, the tractor pulls. Not as much money involved, but just as much excitement, I’d say. But hey, to each their own, right? As long as them drivers are careful, and everyone’s havin’ a good time, that’s all that matters. Still, it’s somethin’ to see all that F1 money flyin’ around. Makes ya wonder, doesn’t it?
